Hi noa48uk any advice would be good what trips are good to go on? what should`nt we miss, were`s cheap to eat and anything else you think we should know, many thanks.
Hi. I hope this may be off some use but if you have any specific questions please ask and if i can answer them i will. We alyways use a company called Love Tours for our trips out. A must do trip is obviously Ephesus, an awesome place. My son and i are interested in archaeology so we also went to Miletus and Priene and to be honest we enjoyed them better than Ephesus, but that could be that when we were in Ephesus is was 48c and my son had a migraine! The water park in Kusadasi was a great day out but there should now be one opened in Altinkum. I wouldnt bother going to any other markets as on Saturdays the makrjet is in Altinkum (short dolmus ride) and the same goods are on offer there. The market is cheaper than the shops along the front so look for what you want then wait and see if you can get it at the market. Eating out is cheap anywhere in Altinkum. Your teenagers would probably like Big Nose Bar (all staff completely crazy) pool table etc. We love Altinkum and feel completely at home. We feel totally safe there, my being a single parent, had me worried at first. My son even fishes all night with the locals allowing me to do my own thing! In August the Turkish tend to holiday in Altinkum which i much prefer to being over run with Brits (sorry if that offends). The 3rd beach is also a must, much quieter than the main beach. A minibus will pick you up from your hotel free of charge, no catches, take you there then bring you back again when you want to leave
Hi. One thing i forgot to mention was the hassling you will encounter. They all want you to eat in their restaurants and buy in their shops. It drove me nuts the first few days and i was slowly losing the will to live, but after a few days i didnt let it get to me, you will get used to it, just be polite and smile and walk on.
Thanks noa48uk that info is really helpful, I hope we like Altikum as much as you do, it sounds great, thanks again.
I've heard the imported drinks are expensive ,so what about Vodka ? Is that expensive ?
also what is Altinkum like for mossies ?
Thanks
Hi, does anybodyknow if there are any waterparks in altinkum and if so are they any good?
We went to Altinkum last year, with two teenagers. Days were mainly spent in the pool or on the beach where you can hire pedaloes, have a banana boat ride etc. We stayed at Dolunay Apartments, which were superb. During the evening, Linekers bar was our favourite - the group of waiters entertained us with their dancing, party games etc. They have a bit of karaoke here too - always entertaining!
some people sound worried about going to altinkum. ive just come back from esra apparts, altinkum. and i am going back in august. ive been going to altinkum for nealry 6 years now and every time i have more fun.
people are right you have to try the boat trips BRILLIANT. i do have to say if your staying in altinkum and looking for some where nice and cheap to eat then i advise you try sultans restaurant....GORGEOUS.
any questions just ask glad to help
shiv
it sounds great, what shouldnt we miss, what are the best trips to do? Whats the Esra like now its been done up, and is the new water park open yet?
thanks Jacky
can't remember what its called but I do know they have a website
just back last week. the waterpark is open and there are dolmuses regularly going there. its about 10mins from the centre of altinkum. we passed it when coming back from ephasus. noone was in there, the staff were sat about, mind you it was raining like you would not believe. if you do go to ephasus dont worry if it rains. the stallholders have hundreds of umbrellas that suddenly appear for sale. the main road up to didim town from altinkum is being planted with shrubs, trees and it is going to look lovely in time. we found the prices have increased since last september especially eating out. i went to buy a notepad, which would cost no more than 20p here and the cost was £1. i didn't buy it so be prepared to walk if the price is not right. i distinctly got the feeling that there are two price charges there, one for english people, another for the turks. all said, i still love the place and will not stop going. the watches in the shopping centre at dolphin square are good value. some are offering 3 for ten pounds. my copy rolex is still going strong from may, 2004. at that price you can have one for each outfit.
went to the waterpark twice as it was so good, first time through thomsons and it costs £12.00 each and the second time through oracl travel and it only cost £8.00 each the park was not busy so you never had to hang around waiting. There is loads of really good slides but they do need more. there is 2 separte swimming pools and 1 large kids pool. all in all its a great day out.
we also went on a boat trip which was great, £10.00 each and that included your pick up and lunch and 1 free drink. we cruised around 5 different islands stopped at each island for a swim.
The pubs are great they have loads of different entertainment like the staff doing different dances and also breakdancing and belly dancers.
You do get hasseled by the waiters to come inside but just be polite and say no thank you. The best bar has to be cheers bar up at the 2nd beach or the dolphine square bar. The roads are a real mess they started upgrading the roads earlier this year and then just left them, ive never seen anything like it in my life
the weather was hot hot hot but some days we had a lovelly cool breeze. came home with a lovelly tan.
we cant wait to come back to Altinkum, we are now hooked
Alison
Anyone know how long it takes to get from Altinkum to Dalyan. My friend has relatives in Dalyan and is thinking of visiting.
Thanks in advance
Linda.
It's about 150 miles, and should take about 4 hours driving. On public transport: most of the day.
Thanks Tony
To Dalyan Turtle beach it takes about 3 hours 30 mintues from here in Altinkum.
Going to Altinkum for the 1st time, 1st time in Turkey. Anyone know what its like there? Any suggestions please on what to do, where to go. Thanks.
Love tours are just at the top of dolphin square and they have better rates than the reps for your other trips.
The mud baths at dalyan are a good trip but, take a change of clothes with you.
There are three main beaches the main beach is just at the bottom of the main square, the first beach is up the top of the resort and the third beach which is our favourite is at the far end of the resort but, if you get the reception where you are staying to ring the penguin restaurant they will come and pick you up to take you down to the beach and bring you back, all you have to do is buy a drink or something from them.
Whatever you choose to do I hope you have a great time I know we do everytime we go. Jacqui
Like the sound of the water park, since I am taking 2 teenagers with me. I hear there is some good boat trips. Have you tried any of them? Whats the weather like around July?
