I have been to Amorgos 3 times, usually saying at both ends, i.e. Katapola and Aegiali. Katapola for scenery, the Hozoviotissa monastry and Chora and Aegiali for the beaches and a bit of hiking to Langada and beyond towards Ag Stavros. Definately worth a visit. Whilst there maybe take the ferry to Astypalaea as well....

Hi

Good choice, Amorgos is fantastic! I can highly recommend the monastery which clings to the side of a cliff and is painted white...can't remember the name now but it is very impressive. When I visited, I looked down at the floor and the monks where using this slab of stone as a door stop which had this intricately carved design on it and must have been centuries old...quite amusing. The monks also served up some liquor of some kind which they produce themselves (always amazing how monks everywhere are brewing alcohol of some kind...take the Trappist monks in Belgium and their beer!) which to me was a bit like rocket fuel, but it gets you into relaxed holiday mode nonetheless! I can also recommend hiring a moped for going around the island. I used to love speeding (not literally of course and definitely not after a long stay with the monks!) along the roads cut into the side of the mountain with a sharp drop down to the sea below and looking at the huge dark mountains all around...very inspiring stuff. Have fun on your visit.

Emmanuel

Too right Pavlos  ........... will certainly look into getting a trip over when we go in July, want to re-visit Naxos anyway so may try and fit them both in same day, depending on timings of ferrys etc.
Thanks again

Heather,
In July the Express Scopelitis does a daily run from Naxos to the 'Small Cyclades', 5 times a week at 1500 hrs and twice at 1300 (not sure which days). If you're going to stay overnight on Koufonissi it may be worth ringing ahead for a room - this is a very popular island now.
