If you go to see the angel of the north it will put you off going any further, so don`t look at it, as there are plenty more things well worth seeing up there, especially on the Northumbrian coast, and off it as well, namely Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands.

Hi

Would agree with 'NumberPlease' as Northumberland is absolutely beautiful. I live in the North East but still go to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne every year for my holidays. Absolutely perfect, even when it's chucking it down with rain.

But if you are Gateshead/Newcastle way, it's worth going down to the Quayside to see the Baltic (art gallery - of sorts!!), The Sage (music centre) and of course the Millenium Bridge, which is quite spectacular when it turns.

Newcastle is a good city as you can walk around all of it easily and shops are good. Metrocentre is also good for shopping (especially if it's raining).

However, if you are a National Trust member think about visiting Wallington in Northumberland, Gibside about 7 miles from Gateshead and Cragside at Rothbury, Northumberland. If you enjoy walking in the fresh air you'll like it. But also go to the Northumberland coasts as 'NumberPlease' recommended. I'd skip Whitley Bay and head further north. Fantastic beaches.

Have a good time

Apart from 2 World Heritage sites (Hadrians Wall, Durham Cathedral), the revitalised Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside area, Cragside, Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Gardens, Beamish Open Air Museum, Lindisfarne, The Farne Islands, Dustanburgh Castle, Craster kippers, Bamburgh Castle & beaches... there's very little (NOT)

Tee hee Alan... Alnwick Gardens is one of my favourite places - and my daughter's now the large water features are in.

Belsay is very worth a visit.

And if you're out Hexham way (visiting the Wall) there's a fab tea rooms and farm shop called Brockbushes (entrance is on the Corbridge roundabout on the A69). We go here regularly as the drive is nice and the tea rooms just lovely. All homemade cakes and quiches and... oh, I could go on! Lovely way to warm up if you've been for a bracing walk!
