I am happy to hear you are thinking of comeing to Crete for your holiday
as it is a great island and I am sure you will enjoy it.
I have logged on to this site for the past few years but I never felt I had anything to contribute to it untill I saw the forum on the sensatori.
I have been watching this hotel being built for more than a year now so I just wanted people to know what it is like & how it is progressing, I just know people are going to love it and the surounding area is so nice & peacefull.

Large Beer 2.80 to 3.20 euro
Metaxa 4.00 euro
Ouzo 2.00 to 3.00 euro
Vodka - Gin ect 4.50 to 5.00 euro (remember they give large mesures here)
Leader cigarets are now 20 euros for 200.

this will not be our first visit [if it comes off] we have been to Kritty many times [always a different resort] I speak a little Greek and have often been accused of being a creatian something to do with my pronunciation [so i don't know if this is a compliment or not]

Thankyou for your comments I am only to happy to help with any imfomation for people that choose to come to Crete for there holidays as it is such a magicl island.
There is so many places and things in our area of Gouves & Analipsi that the tourists would not know to go and see. So dureing the summer months it is great to be able to point them in the right direction.
Also the biggest surprise is the amount of people that are afraid to use our local bus service as they have been told by certain people (I am sure you know what certain people I am talking about) that the local bus service is unreliable and they will have to wait for ages on a bus, but here we have one of the best bus service in europe you can go all over the island very cheaply.
So all summer I am always organiseing someones day out and they do come back at the end of the day to say thankyou to me as they had a great time.
I love this island very much and I only want to help other people to see crete as I see it.
Wizard I do hope you are able to make it back to crete this summer.

PS I have Quakersyard from the sensatori forum going out to shoot a HAGGIS to bring out to me in september HA.HA. Can you picture it a WELSH man shooting HAGGIS.

the most important thing is that good old Chania bottled retsina is still only about €1.60 a bottle!

I can thoroughly recommend the bus service, never had a problem and depending on the route runs late into the night.

I too can recommend the bus serrvice. We stayed last year in Koutouloufari, and wanted to see people we stayed with 12 years ago who used to be in Analipsi. We got the bus from Hersonnisos to Analipsi, walked down the lane to the village to find the bar they used to have, only to find, their parents there, who told us they now own San Constantin Village in Gouves, we were walking back up the lane to the main road for the bus, we were not near a bus stop but the bus stopped for us and on to Gouves we went to find the people. We never had long at any time to wait for a bus. Can recommend Koutouloufari too, lovely village

We are thinking of taking my parents to Crete as a treat for their Golden wedding, they have never been abroad before and my dad mentioned he wished he had gone to Crete. We have been twice before once to Gouves and then to Kokini Hani. We would like to take them to Gouves but wondered if you could recommend somewhere to stay that wasnt too far to walk from to the tavernas shops and beach and that was of a good clean standard of accomodation. I would be most greatful if you could help.

Gouves is a great place if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, it is very peacefull no loud music all hours of the night.
We have many familys & couples who come back to Gouves evert year. They tell us they go home felling that they have had a great holiday and will see us again next year.
If I was comeing to Gouves for a holiday there is a few places I would like to stay.
1 The Ourania Appartments (Thomson Holidays this year) is my favourite as the appartments are very nice, They built in the style of a small village it is nice and peacefull. There is flowers & olive trees every where, the staff are very friendly and will make you feel very welcome & you are 5min walk from beach-shops-bars & tavernas.
2 The Maria Kelly Apparments is another very nice appartment, family run and the standard of appartments is excelent.
The beach is 1 min walk away tavernas- shops right on the door step.
I know you can book these appartments at a good price through http://www.lowcostbeds.com You can book the flight with them as well but I would compare other prices aswell.
3 The San Constantine Appartments (Thomson Holidays) Theses appartments are very very high standard, the staff are excelent they make you feel so at home. There is always entertainment of some kind on at night for everyone. This is a family complex so depending when you are comeing you might find alot of children there.
These appartments are close to beach & shops aswell.

Thankyou Anna that has been really helpful. We have stayed at the Ourania apts before, I think in 1999, when Kevin was the manager.We had a wonderful time, although the apatments were near to a few shops and Tavernas (one of which facing the beach sold the best ever tasting meatballs we have had in Greece) I feel they may be too far from the main shops and tavernas for my mum and dad to walk to.
