Annapurna

We always have our first drink in the Annapurna, it was the first bar we went in on our first visit to Goa, so it's a bit of a ritual now with us. We noticed that it wasn't as busy when we were there in March, we go on Monday for 2 weeks so will let you know what it's like when we get back.

:) I went a couple of times in March, I agree, the service and food is definitely not as good as it used to be.

Called in several times for a drink over the last 3 weeks never actually seen anyone eating so we gave the food a miss, although over the years we have had some very good meals their, was quite empty each time we went so dont know what has happened, the beers nice and cold though, allan :glynis

We discovered Annapurna during our visit and thought it was excellent. The curries were the closest to UK curries we have found in Goa since going there since 2002. Service was second to none and the restaurant was very busy most nights.

We went to the Anapurna on our first night just before Xmas, it used to be one of our favourite curry restaurants. One of our party had virtually no chicken in his meal, it was all bone and gristle. To be fair they did replace it right away. My son then found a metal grub screw in his curry which had clearly come off the handle of a pot. I called the owner over and gave him the screw, he took it, shrugged and walked off with no comment at all, not even an aplogy. No wonder it is so quiet these days, had he apalogised and maybe offered my son a beer or something, then fine these things happen. We will give it a miss next time, no wonder it is so quiet

been going to this restaurant since 1999 and went there again a couple of weeks ago, had a great welcome as usual and found the food was as good as ever. can't say any more than that really.

Had breakfast there and an odd night for a curry which has been fine - mainly use it late at night for a quiet drink.

I am not sure the Annapurna I went to is the one everyone is complaining about. My Annapurna is just up from the Mango Grove in Candolim and is more a restaurant than a bar. Are there others?

Is it the one with the big tree growing up the middle of the restaurant, on the left hand side of the road heading towards Calangute?
If it's the one that I'm thinking of there's a handbag shop across the road called (I think) Genuine Fakes.

We ate at this restaurant twice in 2004 (I'm such a saddo that I keep a note of where we've eaten and what it was like), had Indian and Chinese and were not impressed.

That's the one. We found it very good and most nights it was very popular. Just shows it is "horses for courses". We used to eat mainly in Marios down Beach Road, opposite Alexandras, but had a problem with a drunken Indian swearing at us. We decided it was either him or us, and the restaurant refused to do anything about it so we voted with our feet. Shame because they do the best tandoori we have come across but there are so many to choose from.

One restaurant we were disappointed with was Little Italy. We did not realise until it was too late that it was vegetarian and seemed quite expensive.

Can anyone say whether Roma is any good which is nearby?

Roma is great - have just got back and had 3 meals in there - best garlic bread ever! Shame a few more people don't use i.t - as it is off the main road but have been eating there for the last 4 yours and always enjoyed

Its down the beach road down a little alleyway close to eyesight opticians. I had a pizza and it was awful. The place was empty. Oh and my oh had pasta which was more like a starter and not very good to be honet. Only went the once.

We went to Annapurna last year and after a couple of year of visiting them for their Chilli prawns I had a chicken dish which was tastless and the chicken was pink.Yuk

The worst meal I had was in the Cato Loco in Candolim not far from Annapurna, it was the lobster it was very expensive ,tastless dry overboiled and to be honest looking around at other people (it was lobster night) the look of disapointment on peples faces said it all

The Roma I was talking about is not in Beach Road. It is more in Calungute than Candolim, down a side turning near to Little Italy. We took a taxi to Little Italy (cost 100 rupees) but passed Roma just before we got there.
