No not away at Christmas, prefer it at home. Got a New Year's Eve celebration booked with friends and looking forward to DD being back from Uni for three weeks plus hoping to have extra time off work over and above what we are given.

Might book centre parcs for late January if there is any availability left, I know they used to run at virtually 100% capacity when we went four or five years on the trot, but maybe the recession has seen to that.

Quite nice to be in a forest location when it is all cold and frosty amongst the trees, and they seem to have a huge variety of accommodation nowadays.

We have always said we prefer to be at home for christmas day at least but the boys are getting older now and the excitment of presents doesnt mean so much to them now they are all working +it only ever seems to be us now whereas I used to cook for about 16. Just doesnt really seem the same now. I was actually wondering over the weekend what New York would be like over chrimbo .. looks good on the films. :D

Dave & I are going to chester for a couple of days between chrimbo and new year.Never been before so will be nice to try somewhere new in the UK.

I love being away over Xmas, we have to save 3 days leave for between Xmas and NY and I take the first two weeks of Jan off so we can get away for 3 weeks which I wouldn't be able to do at any other time of the year.
For the last 13 years we have been going to Goa it the only place we've found that we can afford at this time of the year as prices are really high. Here we can eat out every day breakfast, lunch and Dinner with a soft drinks during the day and probably a bit to much alcohol on an evening and still have enough change from £50 to buy our fags and odds and sods.
We are thinking about trying somewhere else next Xmas perhaps we may have to do without going away in the summer to pay for it but Goa does tick all out boxes at the moment.

Ditto Lyn .... we only have an 18 year old boy who always knows what he is getting before he even opens his present .. gone are the days, you got what you were given and were happy with what you received.

Went to Egypt between Christmas/new Year 2007 ... really disappointed! Hotel was a disppointment (apart from New years Eve) quite chilly in the evenings and temps weren't much better during the day .. and pools were freezing!!

Hi Kiltman,

I remember Hogmanay in my younger days back home only too well ..... doors were never locked, firstfooter had to turn up with a lump of coal otherwise my mother wouldn't let them in. A redhead first footing was a no go and we had pipers on the street ... happy days and I would add I'm not that old either LOL!

Re Hogmanay in Egypt .... best night of our holiday. They really fo to town!
