In Sa Coma at the moment and it is sooo quiet. All inclusive is killing the resort.

Hi Pargaluvva,
hope you are having a good time. It's a shame that all incusive is killing the resort, we hafd a great time in Sa Coma 2 years ago.
We have recently come back from an all inclusive holiday in Ibiza, it was nice to have all our meals and drinks paid for but by the middle of the holiday we were sick of it, we ended up going out for a drink on an evening 4 nights out of the 7.
I can understand why families prefer to stay all inclusive and don't have to worry about spending money but we would rather stay self catering and choose where we eat and drink.

Carol :cheers

At the end of the day its only June, the resorts will pick up come school holiday time however I do agree, All inclusive is killing resorts and I for one dont want to stop in one place all the time when on holiday - too boring!

Hi Carol (and Barnio). Just got back :( . Thanks; we did have a great time. We stayed in the Hotel Oasis Punta Amer which I would recommend 100% (for couples). We found some fab restaurants. which I will review later on this, or another, thread. The bars in S'illot and Cala Bona were quite busy but other than the Kings Head and Britannia, Sa Coma was very quiet (but even these weren't packed). We spent quite a couple of nights in Cristobels (aka Sports Bar) and really enjoyed it; good measures, good music and Gabriel (the owner) is a great guy who gave us a gorgeous chicken curry type dish with fresh crusty bread, free of charge, which was very much appreciated when we got peckish about 1 am in the morning. I know it's only June but the bar owners were saying that takings were down this year and I suppose they will continue to be if people choose all inclusive. We met people on our last night who were out in Sa Coma for the first time in 8 days because they were AI at the Boogie. Personally, I would never do AI because I think half the fun is trying all the different bars and restaurants.

I wonder what percentage of the market AI has? When will the Spanish Government do something about it? I feel sorry for all the bar and restaurant owners whose businesses are being crippled by hotels and apartments offering all inclusive.

I'm not for or against AI, you pays your money and takes your choice. However, as I understand it the hotels running AI need a special license from their local council in order to offer that service. So the bar/restaurant owners only need to look to their elected representatives if they have complaints.

Pollensa,

Tha's the law, but like most laws in Spain, people pick and choose which laws they like and which one's they don't.

As you say, Hotels need a special licence, but all the Fiesta / Fresh Hotels are offering "Cash only" All inclusive for 15 euros a night, paid by every member of the party and paid up front in Cash. It's taking a lot of spending money out of the resort, and adding to the difficulties that many hard hit bars were already suffering.

The Police should act, but don't.

Hi Goodfellow. Good points. I didn't everything would be as straightforward as Pollensa was saying!? How are you? Hope everything is OK? Are you working?

That's a pity, cos I would hate for my favourite bar/restaurant to go under due to illegal AI. In the long term it does nothing for a resort to have a string of AI hotels and not much else. Cancun, Mexico was like that when we visited 10 years ago.
