Myself, hubby & 2 kids are off to Sozopol in August for 2 weeks. Went to Sunny Beach in 2003 & 2005 so wanted a change this year. As first time visitors to Sozopol any info would be appreciated.

Happy Holidays

Hi Yvonne,

A google search pulls out quite a lot of information, see HERE

You might do better asking on a new thread with a relevant title, this one is too general.

Hi Rachel

Yes in answer to your question some people do travel around we only use Sunny Beach as a base and usually do about 1000 - 1500 kms while we are out there visiting Sofia ,Plovdiv, Varna and anywhere else that takes our fancy as you say there is a lot more to Bulgaria than the beach I think in a total of about 25 visits I have spent about 5 hours on the beach . :!: seems terrible to go to a beach resort and not go near the beach but suits me and my family as we want to meet real Bulgarians not just seasonal workers

Hi Mondeo

5 hours!!! Thats far more than we've managed since 1989. It's now a joke with our friends over there, we have a ceremony of putting one foot on the beach each visit. We then hurriedly go into to real Bulgaria.

Hi Patka

should have mentioned that the five hours probably consisted of about 4.1/2 hour the very first time and that was because we met someone who my wife had went to school with 20 years earlier in the hotel and I got dragged along with them on the first day I just dont like sand and dont see the point of going all that distance to lie on a beach when there is one 8 miles from where we stay if that was all there was to going to a foreign country 8)

The 'anywhere but Sunny Beach' in the thread title just about sums it up for me, too.

You can't share a ferry with a donkey cart or harvest your own grapes with friends, in Sunny Beach.

Golden Sands, Albena, Sunny Beach all are just a tourist traps, while it might seem to be cheap its at least twice the price you pay even in Varna town center,
If you drive hire a car it can be as little as £15 per day and drive out of this tourist trap, even a taxi to varna will still mean you can have a good nights eating out and drinking
two places I always go to are the potato house and another place sorry dont know names off hand. they are in the main yet expensive area opposite the black sea hotel near the beach
Two people will have problems spending £20.00 in a nights meal and drink
