Yeah,I call in every year and get mine done at the Candolim crossroads, feel really good when you walk out of the place.
200rps is good for a 'tourist' price with the head massage as well.

I always have one when I'm in Goa, especially the head massage, and if you are lucky the barber you choose will have one of the Black & Decker sanders as the highlight of the opration. I usually refuse to pay more than a 100rps, they usually try for 150rps off the tourists so I think you paid a bit over the odds but where in the U.K. can you get attacked by a Black & Decker for a couple of quid or so ! The price for a haircut at Candolim crossroads is:
20-30rps for Goans
40 rps for Kashmiris
As much as they can get away with for us.

My other half had his hair cut in Colva last month - he was asked if he wanted it 'short' or 'medium' - luckily he went for medium as I think he wouldn't have had any hair left if he had gone for short (for short read 'number 1!) His face was a picture as the barber shaved more and more off!! And as for the head massage afterwards.....!! Anyway, it's growing back now but all good fun for the 70 rupees he was charged!

I pay 100 rupees for a haircut and shave, but this is still a lot more than the locals pay.

I had a haicut in baga, it too came with a massage which took about 4 times as long as the haircut, so be prepared to be in the seat for some time. the hair cut was very nice though he took a lot of care with it.

HI,

Can you tell if the shaves are as good as they are in turkey, i love them done whilst i am there always a lot closer than i can achieve. I pay about £2.00 -£3.00 there so this sounds a lot cheaper.

Had a shave in Turkey too (didn't like the hot ash shoved in my ears though) I would say Goa is better, plenty of blade changing and at least 3 creams/oils and talc, great man pampering...

Ok, I woke up and didn't have a great nights sleep so perhaps that's why this post is quite 'strong' - my appologies.... :P

Come on Guys!!! - Paying 200 + for a haircut!!! :? Just don't pay it! - I used to get pee-d off when I couldn't get a hair cut in Calangute for 50 Rs/-, how come it's suddenly gone up to 200!!! Just say no! If enough people say no then they'll either go out of business or have to bring the prices down. In calangute please don't pay over 50 Rs/- It just makes it more difficult for everyone! - Soon they'll be charging more than it costs in the UK.

By the way I get a hair cut AND shave for 30 Rs/-!!!!!

They are just taking the mickey! Laughing in your faces, please don't reply by saying 'oh they need to make a living'... the ones who charge 30 Rs are still making a living... the ones charging 200+ are just con men and theifs... Don't encourage them....

I agree with Rob. There is absolutely no ned to pay more than 50Rs for a haircut and shave. Don't ask the price - they'll come up with sometihing ridiculous - just give 50Rs at the end and say thanks very much. It is more than enough.

Hi,

Just back  and hubby had a couple of shaves and 2 hair cuts, his hair was long (ponytail) and he felt like a change, went a the barbers near the fish market in Calangute - he has been there several times before - charged him 100 for shave a cut which we didnt think was too bad due to the length of his hair - that was at 9am by 12 we were at the barbers near bobbys for a re-cut and i can say the 2nd cut was very good and cost 50 rupees, a local came for shave and was charged 10 rupees including massage

One year when he had a haircut and shave it took me 3 days to notice that his sideburns were different levels, once i had told him he walked with his head to one side till he was able to 'equal them up' when back in room.

Priceless Goa :D

I always go to the one next to Poojas Bar in Arpora, I get a cracking haircut, I give him 50 rps including tip and he is over the moon. I have had head massages there but I can't be bothered to sit in the salon for too long as it gets very hot although they do allow me to bring my bottle of Kingfisher in while i'm having my haircut - could'nt do that over here!
