My kids are desperate to see some decent snow! We rarely get any on the coast where we live down south and even if we do it is never enough to make a decent sized snow ball! I was kind of hoping to take them up to Scotland for a weekend so they could see what real snow is all about! When would be the best time to book for? Is there a month when you just know that for the last few years you have had a decent snowfall please?
Thank you
Ellie
I would have the same problem here where we live on the southern coast of Ireland. However if we travel inland about 20 miles and up into the mountains we can usually find snow and the kids have their snow ball fights and make a snowman. Dont know if this would be an option for you.
Forgot to say that if you want some really good snow I think you can actually go sking in Scotland????
To be honest I'd like to make it a weekend away with the flights and stuff, a proper mini holiday I don't really know at what point "proper" snow starts on the mainland I have a maye in Middlesborough and they get loads but that is a 5-6 hour drive away, I'd rather fly
Generally speaking you are more likely to get snow after New Year - right up to March really but its not guaranteed.
You could fly in to Inverness and hire a car. The drive should take you less than an hour. Alternatively you can get the train to Aviemore.
There are some very good family resorts in the area. We used to stay regularly at the Coylumbridge hotel

butI also hear good things about this one

Theres loads to do in the area, including the Reindeer centre and the skiing.

cairngorns are a good bet for skining, as for a holiday with snow aviemore is super also as its aholiday resort with other things to do other than skiing. best time for snow is after new year. usually mid january.
Thank you for those links, they look great The more I look into this the more keen I am to go
That's why i want to get away, all I ever get here is slush I get so excited every time they say it's going to snow but we never see any. My house practically backs onto the so the salt air keeps it away. Having said that I had to leave work early a couple of times last year as the snow was heavy and that's only half an hour from where I live so maybe I'll have better luck this year
Ohh sounds good do you fancy some company?????
Sounds good to me Sam
It rained EVERY DAY in Fort William.......... and we were hoping for snow.
One day we drove to Aviemore.......... nearly had to turn back, as it started SNOWING! We visited the Cairngorns........ loads of kids and adults were sledging, snowboarding etc.
We have booked to go back, for a week, in Grantown on Spey, which is around 7miles awat from Aviemore.
We have a detached house, in nearly an acre of land........... deer have been spotted.
Four bedrooms, open coal fire......... aah, cant wait

Who did you book through Cromwell? I really like the idea of us having our own place but wonder if that woud be possible for a weekend only?
We wanted an open coal fire, so i put this on my "requirements", and this was one of a few.
Its very popular.......... http://www.aviemore-holiday-home.co.uk/
This is where we are staying...........
We booked it in March this year........ 11 months in advance.
Yes it does, got a spare bedroom whilst you're there?
There are 4 bedrooms......... me and hubby are having the bedroom with the Four Poster bed in......... My daughter and son are having a bedroom each.
I will send you the date and directions Eloisa.............. xx
Hi cromwell ... I have had to edit several of your posts due to excessive use of emoticons. For the benefit of our members who are visually impaired and already having difficulty reading posts, could you please stop inserting emoticons throughout the text. One at the end of each post would be sufficient.
Will do David.
Just spent the weekend in Comrie north of Stirling and would recommend this area - fly to Edinburgh or Glasgow and hire a car. Ben Lawers on the banks of Loch Tay had a good covering of snow on Sunday morning.
OOh snow in November......... sounds good for us
