Glynis posted my review which hopefully was comprehensive enough. Feel free to post any further questions but compared to other "4 Star" places I have stayed at in Majorca and Menorca, this was one I found worthy of the ranking.

We stayed here in june/july last year. it is a very nice hotel

PLUS= lovely food, lovely pool and the rooms are really nice with fab air conditioning. It is also very central to both the town center and marina. The staff are very friendly and always smiling

MINUS The evening entertainment & mini disco were inside (although the mini disco was very good) There is a severe lack of sunbeds around the pool and we saw several arguements and one nearly turned into a fight(next to the toddler pool too!)

Asthetically only one other hotel looked as nice.Book it!! but book direct as many friends we met there had saved as much as 50% on what we paid.

This is the best hotel in Cala D'or. It is basically two buildings with a large pool in between. The food is excellent and the entertainment good. On the downside, the entertainment is indoors, the bar is downstairs. :D Going there for fourth time in July.

Anyone been to the Sa Marina Aparthotel in Cala D'or? Would you recommend we pay for half board or just go self catering? What are the restaurants like in the surrounding area? Any other good snippets anyone may have on food or the hotel? We go at end October - family of 4, 2 kids - 12 and 9.

Thanks to anyone who can advise

Anyone know where to get a good rate for Sa Marina ?

We booked direct with the hotel group - Intruotel. Having searched the usual hotel booking sites and performed numerous searches across google, yahoo + others - we couldn't find anywhere else that sold rooms, at least for the October half term break we were looking for.

We have booked Self catering, thought we may eat in at the hotel if it looks good. I have heard you can get a deal where children eat free when adults are dining. Can anyone confirm this? And is it for breakfast, dinner or either?

Thanks, Colin

I was reading the reviews for the sa marina, it says that they are building a new apartment block at the rear. Having been there in 2004 I can only think that this will make the pool area and other areas very busy and crowded which would be a shame as this is a great 4* hotel. Does anyone have any information on this.

Hi cfc, we had a look at the new block last week as the shell is now finished and ready to fit out. It is built on the land towards the Cabrabo supermarket and faces the main road and is totally separate from the main complex, they may let people use the main pool but it looks like this building in the future will have its own pool facilities as there is still plenty of land left behind it. If they fit it out as quick as they have built the shell then it may be ready for 2007 season. There is a banner on the outside that says that Inturo have won the award for best complex on Mallorca so it looks good for the future in Cala D'or.

Does anyone know if they have built a second pool here, or a new block. Thanks

Hi,
Yes, the new block of the Sa Marina is completed and open. I am assuming it has a new pool area too as the existing pool was very small for the size of the hotel and the number of guests. I have not stayed there or been around the new block but I live in Cala Dor for part of the year so I have passed by and know that it is now complete and open etc. Hope this is of some help.

Hi

I have read the reviews on here for the hotel but was wondering if anyone had been recently and what the sunbed situation is like. Have read that there was a problem with people reserving them and not enough beds but since the new pool has opened I wondered if this was still a problem.

Also would be grateful for restaurant recommendations. We perfer more traditional type restaurants and love all food (not fussy) but especially fish, seafood, tapas.

Also is there a supermarket in Cala D'or?

Many thanks.

can't answer question on hotel, but there is lots of restaurants to choose from, we find that there is a good selection of fish on most of them (i eat fish all the time, not a meat fan) ther is some very good one on the marina, which tend to be a little more expensive but have a fab view. There is a large supermarket in cala dor called eroski (used to be called Mercadona) where you will get all you need including fresh bread which they bake eack day (lush) enjoy your holiday

there is a supermarket near the Sa Marina and one in the town. we loved trying all the different restaurants in the paved centre of cala d'or - it was much better than the other end (although the kids preferred the other end as there was more for them to do after we had eaten).

Hi there,
One of the best restaurants in Cala Dor is just next to the Sa Marina hotel - its called Vicente. It does the most fab food, some Mallorquian dishes but with a modern twist, and fantastic seafood. We have been eating there regularly for the past ten years and the owner Dani has become a firm friend. Very highly recommended!
As regards the sunbeds, I would imagine that the problem is not as bad out of the school hols period when the hotel is at its busiest.
Have a great time! :)

Thank you all for your replies. I shall definately check out Vincente if it is right near our hotel (also from reading previous post that restaurant has come up already as a good one) we will also get down to the harbour too.

We are off tomorrow so just hope the weather is good - as everyone seems worried about it!!!! Anyway back to packing - typical we are off just as our weather hots up!
