Basically we only had 6 nights accomodation and paid for a week?

This would depend on what time you arrived at your accommodation ie if it was 6.30am and you went straight to your room then that is classed as one nights accommodation even though it is early morning. The room would be ready for you on arrival.

Unfortunatley in holiday world a day runs from 12pm noon and not midnight, unlike the real world. Therefore if you arrive in the later in the day your room is ready. This is one of the problems with night flights which is why I try to avoid them unless the premium is sky high (which it usually is! )

We checken in at 9am on the 3rd September but our flight was at 23.45 on 4th September. We checked out on 10th.

I wont be booking a late deal or a late night flight again!

If you arrived at the hotel on the 4th then your last night in the accomadation should have been the 10th if you had paid for 7 nights. The hotel we stayed in at Ovacik back in July tried this on with me we check in on the Monday evening and was due to leave early hours Monday morning was told we had to be out Sunday lunch I told them I had paid for 14 night accomadation and that takes it through to the Monday the receptionist then fetch the manager and he got some paper and had to write every night down we had stayed then had to agree we were right and did'nt have to pay anything.

Hi Yogabird,

What date and time of day did you actually check-in to the hotel on because your post above is confusing? You say that you checked in at 9.00am on the 3rd and if this means that you checked in at the airport then for the flight I'm confused as to why you would do so over 36 hours before your flight departed which is the implication of the dates and times you give. If this big time difference was due to the flight being delayed then the hotel would have started your booking from when you were expected to arrive and not when did arrive.

The crucial thing with late night/overnight flights is whether you are able to get straight into your room as opposed to having to wait until after 2.00pm because if you were then that would have counted as your first day's occupancy. This is the big drawback with late night/overnight flights and you aren't the first to be caught out by this.

As for why some people where allowed to stay in their rooms, well someone has to prepare the rooms for those 7 people arriving on the similarly timed flight to the one you arrived on. Short of insisting that the chamber maids worked through the early hours then some of the rooms at least would have to be vacated in time for them to prepare the rooms. Sounds like it was luck of the draw to me rather than a failing on the part of the tour operator but perhaps you could be more specific about dates and times and if your flight ws delayed or not?

I departed Gatwick on Friday 2nd Sep. Flight was supposed to depart at 23.45 but was delayed until 01.00am on 3rd Sep.

We finally arrived at hotel on Saturday 3rd Sep around 9am (turkish time).

Our return flight was at 6.45am on 10th Sep, hotel wanted their room at 11am on 9th Sep!

I wish I just locked the door and stayed in the room until 3am!

So with my bad maths, that is only 6 nights in the room!
£620 for 2 adults for 6 nights! Rip off!

Your gripe should not really be with the hotel but with the tour operator. The hotel would have been booked for you from 2 sept for 7 nights . Surely when you booked your holiday you would have seen that you had a 'night flight'. i went to this hotel in August and the latest you could keep the room to was 11pm (on payment of a supplement.) however ebryone agreed that we were lucky to get the option as some hotels do not give you this facility and will only proovide 1 room for all guests leaving that night.

As Slodge says, your gripe is with TO not the hotel. The fact that the TO couldn't get you there to use the first night booked is not the hotel's fault and they would be under contract to have the room ready for the next set of arrivals due to arrive at the hotel in the early hours of the 10th which would also constitute their 1st night. Imagine how you'd feel in similar circumstances if your flight had been on time to be told by the hotel that you couldn't get into your room because the previous occupants where refusing to leave in time for them to make the room up ready for you. The fact that you spent most of your first night in the departure airport is the TOs fault and you should be dealing with them to try and get some compensation, not the hotel.

This thorny issue of which night is really the first night comes up time and time again with night flights and is one reason why I won't book night flights for 7 day holidays - a flight delay can result in a considerable chunk of your holiday going up the spout.
