This was great in theory, but I don't know whether it was properly enforced because I moved to Athens just after the Olympics Games. Many people worry, myself included, that the tremendous effort made by the government to clean up Athens ahead of the Games will just fall by the way-side now that they're over. As any Greek citizen will tell you very proudly "we have more laws than most EU countries"...and they are right, it seems that new legislation is adopted about something every other day. The problem is that there are not sufficient resources to enforce them, so they remain good on paper but not in practice. The new government is making real changes and hopefully will have some significant impact. We must remain hopeful.
