We had a lovely time staying at Lindos view, and adored Lindos in general and you cannot help but love the little white houses tumbling down the hill however if we returned we would stay in Pefkos as we fell in love with the laid back beach and general vibe. Had been put off Pefkos due to people saying it was overrun with Brits and whilst this is true the same could be said of lindos and Rhodes in general (Brits and Germans). There was something about the smell of the pine trees as you arrive in Pefkos that just makes you relax and smile.
I didn't find Lindos too busy but it was expensive, as was the Lindos view. And whilst I didnt notice any non residents using the pool at the Lindos View the crazy people out putting towels on the loungers at 6am meant that we spent most days away from the hotel and enjoyed the beach. Our room was nice and I couldn't fault it, thankfully we had nice neighbours but the awful loud chain smoking family a couple of rooms down that spent the whole holiday moaning about the heat/the people/the food did get on our nerves a little.
We also hired a car and saw lots of inland and the other coast and it was breathtakingly beautiful. I wonder how many package holiday makers miss this lovely and more unspoilt side to the island. Rhodes old town was like walking into the pages of a historical novel, and at night wandering around some of the more quiet back streets was lovely. The beaches at Tsampika and at the southern most tip were great but Pefkos still edges it for me.
The people were mostly lovely, my 3 year old was treated amazingly well and it makes me realise what an un child friendly place the UK is, there is certainly not a children must be seen and not heard attitude in Rhodes. Her highlight was the waterpark which was a lot of fun. My highlight would be hard to pick but the Simi trip might just have it, I have never seen anywhere so beautiful in my life and it was hard to leave after just 3 hours. I would love to stay there for a few nights.
There was nothing I could fault about the holiday, and Rhodes in general although we were surprised at the litter and the amount of un finished building but I can forgive Rhodes for those small little moans- given the choice I would much rather be there than here, perhaps sitting in a bar overlooking the sea with a cold Mythos.
Hope all you lucky people that still have your Rhodes holiday to come have as lovely a time as we did.
So good to hear that you enjoyed my favourite place on earth---- Rhodes.I love the island and never tire of going back again and again.
I'm surprised at your preference for Pefkos as i'm a total Lindos devotee but it wouldn't do for us all to like the same. I do think that you don't really get the feel of Lindos unless you stay in the village itself, you get all the facilities up at Krana but none of the old village charm.
Sounds like you had a great holiday and that's all that matters - vive la difference
Oh I thought Lindos was beautiful and charming and I do understand what you mean about staying in the village - I am sure that would be an amazing experience. I loved looking out at the roof tops at night and until we went to Symi I would have said that Lindos was the most beautiful place I have ever been. I just thought Pefkos was so relaxing and the beach was lovely and great for our 3 year old.
Hi there rachael. How far is Pefkos from Lindos? My niece is getting married in Lindos next year and we are hoping to travel out. Looking for a nice 4* hotel with plenty of stuff for my son who will be just 15 .
It was an easy 20 min bus ride away or a 7 euro taxi that took about 5 mins (crazy taxi drivers!). Sorry I don't know of any 4 * hotels although the Lindos View (at the top of hill at Lindos, not right in the village) was a very comfy and clean 3*
In answer to the question about a 4* hotel, dont think there are any in Pefkos, but we stayed in the Lindia Thallassia (sp?) apartments a couple of years ago. They are lovely beachfront 4* apartments, at the Lindos end of Pefkos and I wouldnt hesistate to recommend them. Not at all rowdy, but enough going on for your 15 year old (especially as the sister resort, Pefki Island is just opposite)
I have been to Lindos 10 times now although we have found the last few times it is getting pricey 3.50 for a bear as an example. Hey your on holiday so it doesnt really matter. we just keep going back we are there for two weeks from Saturday cant wait.
Glad you enjoyed Rhodes, though, I love the place!!
