Got back from Olu Deniz on Monday evening following 11 nights at Belcekiz Beach. Great hotel - will post a report soon.
Holiday got off to a great start, straight down the M25 and onto the M23 with no hold ups. Left car with relative who lives near Gatwick and got cab to the airport. Arrived at 12:50 and our flight was due to leave at 16:45. At check in desk at 13:00 only to be told there was a 3 hour delay. Thomson rep obviously wasn't very good with figures because she then went on to say that the flight would now take off at 20:40! Methinks that's more like 4 hours. Never mind, got through security checks fairly slowly (but better than last year) and went to get a drink. Our flight number eventually came up on the boards - and the flight time was now 21:40. I've never been so bored, worse than sitting on a bench in a shopping mall for hours on end! Anyway, we had something to eat and eventually got on the plane. Took off at 22:05. Flight was fine, so was the transfer and finally got to the hotel at 7:00 Friday morning, time to get unpacked and head off for breakfast.
Stayed in Olu last year, so knew where everything was more or less. OH booked paragliding and we also booked Aquapark in Calis and 12 islands boat trip from Fethiye (did the boat trip from Olu last year).
OH was really dissappointed with the paragliding. His guide was the last one of his group to go and it took him 4 attempts to take off. He was only up for 20 mins tops, didn't see inland much at all, just back and forth along the beach and lagoon. He said the journey up the mountain in the jeep was the best bit, beautiful scenery. In fairness to the company he booked with, they did say that the 11:00 and 13:00 times were the best to go up, but OH had a speciic reason for wanting to be occupied at the later 15:00 session. Also a bit dissappointing was the aquapark at Calis. Had been to the one nearer to us at the Grand Ucel Hotel in Orca last year, and while that is also quite small, the slides and flumes were better and faster,I'm reliably told by Big Kid, sorry meant OH.
Sunday woke up with Delhi belly, thought this was going to be one quick bout like I had last year, but unfortunately it wasn't. Ended up at the doctors on Wednesday with a jab in the bum and 3 lots of tablets - the crowning glory was being told no alcohol while I was on the antibiotics and to only eat plain food, ie bread, rice and potatoes! This when we were staying AI at a hotel with lovely food.
Was a bit worried about the boat trip on Thursday, but this was a really enjoyable day, with stunning scenery.
Spent a lot of this holiday laying by the pool or sitting in the shade when it got too hot. It did get very hot towards the end of our holiday - quite funny - we got the dolmus in Fethiye on Saturday evening and one of the digital temperature things at the side of the road was flashing between 38 adn 39 degrees at 18:00. When we flew into Gatwick on Monday at 17:30, the pilot informed us that the temperature was a pleasant 15 degrees!
All in all we had a nice relaxing stay, visited some of our favourite haunts from last year, both thought the hotel was superb, but ready to try a different resort or even country next year.
Anyone still to go this year - have a brilliant time.
Good informative post, Glad you had a great time.
Finally gotten round to posting a report on the Belcekiz Beach Club. Hope it's of use to anyone considering going there - can't recommend it highly enough.
Ooo your comment about the paragliding made me stop and think. 4 attempts to take off!!!! Thats sounds a bit scarey, Did he fall in a heap or what happened. I have done paragliding once, thinking of doing it again next year with daughter. Who did he go with?
Went with Pegas along the front. Guy in there went on about all their pilots having at least 6 years experience, no accidents etc. Checked out their insurance before booking too. In fairness to them it was a bit breezy that day, but OH was the last of his group to go and as I said it took 4 attempts before the piot was happy. Unfortunately by then OH had lost whatever confidence he had in his pilot and all the way down wasn't sure whether what was happening was supposed to happen or if things were about to go badly wrong. As it happens they landed fine, but he wouldn't use the same company again. Heard good reports about Sky Sports though and there were quite a few companies that we saw coming down doing all sorts of clever acrobatic stuff.
Think OH was just unlucky (or lucky, depending on which way you look at it)!
My 2 teenagers went with sky sports . They are expensive £70 and they wont budge on that unless there are a few of you. no complaints, all seemed very professional. They went on the 11 oclock take off that one of their pilots told us was the best time . lots of talk about thermals at that time . they were up about 40 mins and did some acrobats when they were fairly low down.
