Back from Santa Eulalia today. Wasn't impressed with the Orquidea Hotel(will compose review later). The rooms were absolutely tiny, (we moved twice) the staff are rude and unhelpful. It is also very noisy most of the rooms overlook the entertainment (if you could call it that) so you cannot escape the noise until 12am.
The hotel could do with a big overhall and decent sound proofing. The interior was old. Didn't get much sleep at all week in this place, the plumbing system was so noisy when upstairs flushed their toilet it was like a waterfall effect in the room. Also there is a disco in the complex that stays open until 2am and you get awoken by drunks coming home from that also, plus we were right next to the lift shaft and all you hear is zuuumm, zuuum all night, the hotel is a complete hell hole. People who stayed there looked so depressed to be dumped there, never venturing home until the entertainment had finished. Also the cooking facilities in the apartments was pants and everytime you made toast the smoke alarm went off, not even burn't!
Santa Eulalia itself was ok, probably the best resort on the island, as we drove round the island about ten times (had a lot of cloudy days).
I don't think I will return to Ibiza back to Benidorm next year I think, a lot cheaper.
Katy
we usually cook quite often (fussy eaters) this was not possible in the wardrobe/kitchen.not quite self catering accomodation
However dont let this put you off Ibiza. we will return but not to the orquidea
cat
The resort - clean/tidy and well kept (not full of dog muck as others have stated). The marina was nice to sit around as the sun went down.Plenty of 'up-market' restaurants which all seemed to have similar style menu's and roughly the same prices.A few 'Brit' restaurants offering the usual bog standard food.
The 2 beach's in the resort were long but narrow (is this due to the tide being higher for the time of year?) if not, they would be packed like sardines in the peak season.
A few walks around the town, especially along the river were very good and a trip up to the church was nice to see. Also went on the 'land train',not saw what we expected to,but for 11 euros worth it.
The Can Sanso Apts, were situated down a road off the main road going out towards Es Cana, not too far out for us,but those with walking probs and kids may find it a bit too much each day. Just 5 mins down the road from here was a nice little cove and a decent beach (not over full),nice views, clean sea and good sand.
Apartments were of a good standard (thomsons only),clean, well run with nice people.Quite a few kids there, but was out each day so didn't stay by the pool. You can hear traffic noise but you get used to it (have stayed in many places the same).
Went to neighbouring towns either side (Es Cana and Cala Llonga) both ok but more aimed at the 'Brits'.
Ibiza town is a must do - went about 6.00pm so got to know where we were before dark came, then the place comes to life - a good time had !!!
The weather - getting from the plane to the terminal bus,got drenched along with the luggage, this storm continued right through to Sunday 8.00am with horrendus rain/thunder and lightning - have never seen a place so bad.Sunday continued on and off showers (hit the local bars i guess hic-hic !!) Mon,Tues,Wed were really hot (mid 80's to 90's) Thur,Fri a bit 'iffy' in the morning then okay afternoon. Last day Sat was red hot again.
So to sum up.... a good holiday, nice resort,ok weather,v.good food, but not on the cheap side - spent a little more than we thought, but so what !!
Would we go again ?...............
Resort = Yes
Accomodation = Yes
Time of year = Yes
Anyone wanting info, pm me for a quick answer, otherwise i will only look in on the odd occasion as i spend every day on the India forum.
Full reports will be put on resort / hotel asap.
Cheers - Spike.
Have now done so Glynis
Many thanks
A holiday is not just about partying it is about relaxation aswell when you have a stressfull job.
Katy
Obviously not the place to take kiddies, or even yourself if youre after a relaxing time. You can see how valuable the reviews are, and the 'status' of those who leave them. eg, young 'clubbing' kids who may love it and be too drunk to hear the lift shafts. or others who want a quietish time relaxing. The two would obviously leave conflicting views, but you can make your mind up by just 'who' leaves the reviews.
Mixter, thats why I chose Santa Eulalia and not San An as I didn't want constant noise, The hotel actually got quite good reviews from mainly families but there were a few bads ones, but you never know what a place is like until you get there, everyone has different expectations.
Katy, i suppose you were just unlucky with the choice of accomodation. I suppose its a case of trying to read betwen the lines when studying conflicting reviews. Theres a belting litle complex just out of SA on the way to Es Cana, called Casa Luis. Its great for families, with stuff for the kids and adults, and no late night rowdyism. We went 3 years running with the kids, they loved it.
Mixter i think the Casa Luis was on the next side road to where we stayed at the Can Sanso ? If that is the one then yes Katy it looked fine. The Can Sanso was small and well run, good for kids, and even though we were a couple without kids enjoyed the place - all the local entertainment stopped at 11.45,and noise was kept to a good level.
KJRV.How will Benidorm be better next year if you want a quiet holiday. If you think Santa E is full of chavs then Benidorm is the last place to go.Also dont you think that bad weather has an influence on your overall holiday enjoyment?
We stayed in a lovely three bed apartment on the beach in Benidorm a few months ago which was lovely and quiet at night. I like to walk into Benidorm of an evening and watch the shows but when I get back to my apartment I like a bit of peace and quiet.
I actually prefer cloudy, cooler days, gives us plenty of chance to explore.
Santa Eulalia was not full of chavs, but the hotel was i'm afraid.
But the Orquidea is more geared up for the bingo & karaoke crowd...
and as a result stands out like a sore thumb.
I would agree with you there JMO1970, it does stick out like a sore thumb, it is a shame as it is a lovely resort, as I said on my first post I preferred the resort to the others on the island.
but the english pub was gd think it was queen vic !
ibiza lad,
we went in posh one on outskirts sol ibiza i think its called use to be called something else !
well i went to Santa Eulalia the other year and it the deadest place in ibiza everywhere shut @ 11
but the english pub was gd think it was queen vic !
Santa Eulalia is much a less typical holiday town than others in the Balearic's. Although it's definitely geared up for tourists with it's beach and marina, it also has a thriving business community and many of the islands residents that are employed outside of the tourist industry lives in Santa Eulalia. It is a much more sedate town, however it is a much more Catalan Spanish town where you can experience the local culture of the island. Many of the bars and restaurants cater for the Ibiziaincos first and tourists second (which many people like me enjoy) whereas on other coastal parts of the island it is most definitely the other way around, and people that work there obviously don't go out partying every night, thus it is quieter later on.
