That's terrible - I hope they find out the culprit! We've all said the place is changing - a word of warning to all of us ladies that travel alone!

Horrific. I hope the truth is soon known and the culprits found.

men or women should be allowed to travel alone, and experience the world safely, i just hope they catch them fast and i think it would be tourist not local goans but one never knows. and by tourist i dont mean english i mean any other one traveling to goa.

Of course we should be able to travel alone but I do think we all need to be more vigilant.

Awful news.....I see that on another site she has been named as Scarlette Keeling and arrived in Goa last November.

I'm taking my 16-year old daughter out to Goa in 3 weeks or so and won't be showing her the story.

Yes you should be able to travel alone and safely, but there is good and bad in every nationality. Lets hope these horrible people are found very soon.

I read about this this morning in the News of The World. It reported that a doctor who examined her suspects foul play - it also went on to say that several People had been killed in Goa this season.

Extremely sad for all involved :(

Not good at all! If it was my bag they grabbed, my phone would be inside and some bits of make up, but my partner would have the money with him in the evening, so they wouldnt get any money in my bag.
That is a very quiet stretch of road and I believe common sense should prevail in any part of the world (ie dont walk down quiet roads late at night!!!) There are many areas near where I live that I would feel "safe" walking in late at night, but nowadays just wouldnt do it. By 12.30am in Goa lots of streets are rather deserted and a taxi is the best idea (even although you might be overcharged!!!)

This season 5 people that I know have had handbags stolen even though they were across their person and not dangling from their arms. 2 were actually run down by motorcyclists and another one had her bag cut from behind. OK - take a taxi when you go home but why bother when it is only 300 yds - you think you would be safe walking such a short distance - one friend could see her apartment from the restaurant they were eating in.
My wife never takes a bag out with her - she used to do but not now.

mmm.Think I'm gonna get a chaporone to take me home. I have felt a little uneasy the last couple of years and I don't have to walk far.
