We have just made a last minute booking to the Balaia Plaza - we fly next Saturday! I have just done a bit of research online and have discovered that these self catering rooms are rather a long walk from the resort, taxi's are not easy to get and the hotel entertainment is very bad but ..... we are determined to enjoy ourselves and will let you know how things go on our return.
I have to stay on a gluten free diet and hope and pray that some of the local restaurants will be able to understand what I am talking about .... If anyone has any advice I would be grateful.
Thanks
Hi Carly, the taxis will be very busy and you could have long wait due to the time of year. The number of the taxi's direct is (If your ringing from a U.K. mobile) 00351 289 583 230 otherwise leave the code out, hope that is of help to you. Enjoy your holiday & make the best of it, I'm sure you will. Cheers Jayjan
Thank you Jayjan
We arrived mid evening on 25th August and just missed a thunder storm with lots of rain ... but we had gorgeous weather and have great tans to prove it!
We went to Quarteira market (what a busy noisy place that is) had a cruise on the yacht Amorita - sailing from Albuferia Marina which was a day to remember and we also spent our last day at the Old Town which was really really nice too.
Unfortunately, our return journey was delayed so we had to sit in Faro Airport from 4.30pm until 12.20am the next morning which was no fun
The beach across the road from our hotel was gorgeous and we spent a few hours there most days. We did a huge amount of walking and only caught the bus/taxi once but it was a lovely holiday and we hope to return one day in the future.
Hi Carly, glad you had a wonderful holiday, lots of walking, & Quarteira market, all the noise, hustle and bustle.(Did you find any bargains?) Are you now hooked on the Algarve for many more future holidays. We are off this Friday for 10 days, cant wait to get away from the great british weather. Cheers Jayjan
The Market was a real experience - Most of the items on sale were 'fake' but the kids enjoyed buying a few things and I really enjoyed the other little fruit and veg market which was just a short walk up the road from the main market (I can recommend the peaches)! The coach driver stopped off at Vilamoura Marina on our return trip which was also nice to see.
We have not travelled much - just Spain, France, Majorca, Cyprus and now Portugal but I now have the travel bug so I had better start thinking of where I want to see next year!
Have a lovely holiday
Hi Carly, Vilamoura is a lovely resort and we normally stop off there for lunch when we have been to Quarteira market. Sit watching the world go by and people watchin while having lunch and a drink on the Marina. As you seem to like different resorts & countries wheres the next place likely for your travels or have you not thought about it yet. Anyway glad you enjoyed your Algarve experience. Cheers Jayjan
I have no idea where I would like to visit next Jayjan so I think I will continue to read this site and hopefully make my mind up in the New Year
