We are sailing on Costa Fortuna on Saturday and have booked a balcony cabin. Costa balcony cabin prices are alot cheaper than many other lines. Ours was about £250pp more expensive than a basic inside cabin.
If you have an idea of which cruiseline you want to sail with, take a look at their website and it will tell you the different types of cabin.
thanks for advice i'll look web page up enjoy your cruise let us know how it goes
Im looking for a cruise with a balcony myself, have a look at http://www.princesscruises.co.uk there balconys are really big they have sunbeds on and a table and chairs. I need to book a family room with a balcony and am hopeing that its not too expensive, i would hate to be in a room with no windows!
I know the balconies on the Sea Princess are rather small. Not enough room for a sunbed, probably just a table and chairs.
The ship i looked at was The Grand Princess. It does have 2 sunbeds and table and chairs which i thought was unusual but great!
Just would like to mention that sometimes a balcony is not all that private.People on the deck above can look directly down ! I would suggest you ask one of the members who has sailed on your preferred ship for their experiences.
I have just found that out and am a bit worried about that! Is it other people on their balconys or a higher deck looking over?
In my experience it is the deck above. People can lean over the rail whilst looking out to sea and if you look down you can see people sitting outside their cabins. Now ,I only have experience of this on the Thomson Destiny so I do not know about other ships. It may well be that there is some sort of ledge or canopy shielding the occupants from public gaze. Ask the question of someone who has been on your preferred ship.
Planning to sail on the Oceana from Southampton end of September. Happy with an inside cabin usually as so little time spent there but wondering is it worth the extra to upgrtade to outside or even balcony
hi supermum...it would depend on where you are crusing to and how many ports of call,if you let me know i will try and advise.....regards ..johndoe..
We had an inside cabin which was fine. However, we have said that next time we sail we will have a balcony. We visited our friends cabin whilst onboard and hadn't realised how 'different' it felt.
Although I agree with Johndoe it depends on where and when you are sailing to.

Hi, we have been on 20 or more cruises , inside, outside and balcony cabins. Enjoyed them all but now we only use inside cabins, mainly because we can afford more cruises that way. Balconys are great for the feeling of space and also a place to retreat to with a pre dinner drink while the partner is getting ready for dinner, a long process!! However they are usually too small for sun bathing, if they ever get the sun that is. I would always recommend you to try one and then see for yourself if it is worth the extra cost. Dennis
hi supermum.. raymond has made a lot of valid points ..try it on the balcony first then if you like crusing you can make your own mind ..i.e. cheaper options next time.....regards johndoe
Don't know if all ships are the same, but we were against the dockside looking at concrete at every port. So if all ships are the same - info anyone? - and you do decide to pay the extra, maybe you'd want to make sure your bacony is on the port side so if you spend much time in harbour you sit with your pre-dinner drink looking at the view and not concrete?
happy cruising

On some ships you can look UP from an outside deck - interesting view
Just back off Costa Fortuna and we experienced our first balcony cabin. The balcony had two chairs and a table. We were not overlooked from above neither. However our cabin was right at the front of the ship and we had the overhang of the bridge (which was on the deck above us) right over our cabin which completely blocked out any sun. However on saying that as somebody else has pointed out, they are not really big enough for sunbathing. Also depends which way you are sailing whether you will benefit from port or starboard.
would you book one again, and did you have a good time?
Yes we had a FANTASTIC time. The ship Costa Fortuna is stunning, absolutely stunning. The decor and finishes on this ship are 5 star plus.
We were on the "eclipse" cruise where we experienced the eclipse in the Med and that was just awesome. What a very moving feeling we all experienced.
