Have you also noticed there are no flights posted for 8th and 15th July. Tonyt

yes - I checked their web site just to make sure they weren't having one over on me.

A number of people, on this & other sites, also appear to be reporting flight cancellations/rescheduling/changes of departure airport from Liverpool & Manchester airports - not only BH Air flights but those of other tour operators as well.

perhaps the destination isn't as popular as last year. maybe the bird flu business is putting people off?

Baldur is quite correct, and I am getting a distinct impression that tourist numbers from the UK could be down this year, despite some of the hype in the Bulgarian press.

I base this on the number of flights being altered, plus what appears to me to be a lack of interest on both this and other forums.

As for bird flu, I don't think so somehow. Before long it's likely to be everywhere. No point putting off a bit of summer sun in Bulgaria, only to catch it in your own garden!

I absolutely agree with with you Peter, but some people get hysterical about anything.

Good Evening Peter and Baldur, checking my local airports both the 1st flight out of Southampton and the 2nd out of Gatwick are not showing as going. Tonyt.

As anticipated, H5N1 has reached these shores, so any worries about avian flu apply to staying at home as much as to holiday destinations abroad.

Thanks for the airport update Tony.

Just a thought, has the flights been cancelled because loads want to stay at home for the World Cup? I remember years ago, I got a great bargin to Greece when it was on and hardly anyone was at the resort!!! Yvette

If I had the slightest interest in people kicking a bag of wind around, I'd rather watch it in a Bulgarian bar drinking Bulgarian lager at their prices and in their climate, than sat at home.

Can't see any problem, the Bulgarians are also great football fans with most bars showing Sky Sports during the world cup, so no one is going to miss their footie in Bulgaria.

Agreed,

Almost every bar in Sunny Beach a couple of years ago seemed to be showing large-screen Sky coverage of the European Cup in Portugal - as I have less interest in football than I have in quantum mechanics, it was quite difficult to find waterholes where I was not subjected to wall-to-wall football. :(

Quantum mechanics  .....even that sounds more appealing sitting with a beer in some bulgarian bar with the sun, beach and sand close by than watching Trinidad and Tobago fight out a 0-0 draw with Ghana ....all the while the rain runs down your windows in the U.K......footnote: Does "apparent" lack of demand mean perhaps 3 vodkas and coke for the price of 1??? :D :D

:glynis waahaay - the slight inconvenience could be worth it then!

Ref Balkan Flights. Some very good flight only deals now on their web page, for example 5th May Gatwick to Varna £165.30 inclusive and 19th May same route £146.30 Tonyt. Sorry forgot, both for 14 days.

Hi Tony,

The 5th May flight LGW-VAR is only £144.05 with Bulgaria Air, but the 19th is more expensive at £184.07 - still very good for scheduled flights, as opposed to tourist charters.

try http://www.BA.com for cheap flights.

All flights to varna and return are £75 each way during May and June.

They fly Saturdays and Wednesdays. The flight out is at 3PM from Gatwick and don't forget all drinks and snacks are free on board.

For anybody flying Gatwick-Varna on Fridays with Balkan Holidays, please note the following. Change of flight times just been posted on Varna website. arrival time in Varna 01.10 on Sat morning instead of 22.15 Friday evening and return is timed as leaving Varna at 18.00 instead of 15.05, this is going to make approx time of landing 19.30. Tonyt.

Thanks for that Tony, checked my flights and our times have changed. Went on the Balkan site and tried to 'book' same holiday and we are now picking up from Southampton on the Manchester -Varna flight 4-9-06
