Dont think thats true although alot of the bars further along the beachfront definately have been !

There have been various actions taken by the authorities to demolish bars and restaurants that were built without relevant permissions. Bar street is still their although some of the bars / reastaurants on the front have had action against them. You'll find more information on this thread: Places demolished.
