Rhodes is a good choice to be honest. Try the resort of Pefkos, family orientated ect.. As for places to stay, well from your description your probably looking at a hotel rather than a studio/apartment?

Thanks for the quick response - would consider both apartments or a hotel - the games room would be a bonus but wouldnt be a deal breaker. Someone else has mentioned Lindos so I will look at bothe these resorts.

hi gillg...we have booked to stay in pefkos this summer as part of our wedding. i have been to rhodes before but not pefkos. part of why we have booked here is because from reviews i have read. it seems to be very family orientated..not to busy but plent of things to do. we are staying at pefkos beach aprtments..which we thought would be just a small place but when you go on the website (INVALID URL it looks fantastic...i cant give you any definate places to stay as we havnt been before but we will be taking our 5year old..so hopefully lots of things to do...good luck

Gill, if you're thinking about Lindos i'd say Lindos View would be your best bet for facilities and family friendly.

Friends of ours like Pefkos and always stay at Pefki Islands Resort, not sure if they have a games area but it's very popular with families.

Thank you so much for the replies. If we wanted plenty of places to eat within a short walk would Pefkos or Lintos be better? The link to the Pefki Island Resort looks lovely by the way and the Lindos View also sounds really nice.

I'd say Lindos has more choice but both resorts have several good restaurants, there's plenty of options in a short walk of either property.

I've stayed in Pefkos and it has picked up with more restaurants too (well that was on my last visit 2005 where I stayed in Kalathos). We're going to stay in Lindos for the 1st time in May which I'm looking forward too, but as said already it's more a hotel you'd probably be looking at.

I know there are bigger hotels in the North of the Island which may have more kids and play areas, there's also a newish hotel which has opened up near Lardos, can't mind if it's called Lindos or Lardos Village which is supposedly very nice.

There are some Hotels in Lindos which are just outside the town, but can't comment on how much they appeal to kids.

For restaurants I'd say Lindos is much better than Pefkos. Most restaurants in Lindos are 'roof top' ones, and if you choose the right one/s, you get a wonderful view of the acropolis - more so at night when it is lit up.
For everything else, I'd choose Pefkos. Better beach, better accommodation (95% of hotels/apartments in Lindos do not have a pool and are difficult to get to when your lugging you luggage up and down those small, windy, narrow streets). For a days visit, or an evening meal, I think It's the best place on Rhodes (someones bound to argue that point ;) ).
So, taking all your 'wants' or 'would likes' into account, I'd choose to stay in Pefkos, and visit Lindos for the day/evening.

Oh, didn't know that, from reading sounds like extended roofing is the problem for the restaurants, pity about the workforce being affected though.

Don't worry folks the rooftop restaurants are still open, it's just the highest terrace in certain restaurants that have been closed (often built above the original roof terrace). I'm told the idea behind it is to return the village more towards it's original state and i guess it stops some restaurants having a monopoly. The mayor has made several other changes to this end including restricting shop displays from spilling over onto the pavement too much (large drinks fridges for one have had to be moved inside shops) and 'planning' on getting satellite dishes removed from the rooftops - though with the greek love of tv and the visitors love of sports bars this might be more of a challenge!
