hi, we have been to protaras for the last 3 summers staying at the sunrise beach hotel. Although some people find it too commercialised it is ideal for young children. There are two mini golf courses with mini rides, trampolines, a small funfair, loads of bars with bouncy castles etc, a small waterpark and brilliant beaches (yes i know they get busy at weekends). All the bars and restaurants welcome children and several restaurants have enclosed play areas for them while you enjoy your meal. Regarding you wanting a villa i have been looking for one as well but have found them to be quite expensive and not really near the centre which is where we want to be. The nearest i could get was a 15-20 minutes walk away and was £1800 for 2 weeks plus about £1000 for flights plus airport transfers, this is more expensive than the beachfront hotel we visit. I know other people recommend Paphos, Ayia Napa and Nissi beach but children dont want to see historical monuments, go clubbing or get choked on motorbike fumes or watch 20 weddings a day althogh we do visit ayia napa to go to sage and limelight restaurants. If you find any good villas please let me know.
Great beaches along the Eastern coasts with golden sand, lots of places to eat out and entertainment there too. Not so much "in your face" as Ayia Napa - but even Napa is quietening down now in comparison to a number of years ago, when it was in its' heyday.
I agree with everyone above , weve been going to protaras for 10 years now both my daughters has grew up going there ! not everyone might like it but people think different it has a funfair , mcdonalds , play area's , souviner shops ect.. all the things kids love! & most resturants have rather a kids play area or a amusments room! which is good for the kids ! we normally stay in Tropical dreams in Protaras and its just the right spot for us because its in with all the other bars / hotels / pubs / resturants but its out away from the noise at 3 oclock in the morning! Hope this helped a bit!
I have not been to the Eastern side of the Island as yet but from reading previous posts, they tend to have better beaches.
However, we take our two young girls to Paphos and we find plenty for them to do including:
The beach @ Coral Bay - sandy, shallow & safe
mini golf
water park
amusements
The Harbour
The Market
Tombs of the Kings
The Paphos Mosaics
and many bars & restaurants.
The Troodos Mountains are within easy reach for variety.
The Akamas Pennisular is lovely & unspoilt.
Swimming & snorkling at Aphrodite's Baths is second to none.
Try James Villas, Villarenters homelidays or click4holidayhomes websites.
Paphos is a town for all ages; but wherever you choose, your children will be spoilt by the warmth & generosity of the Cypriot people.
Good Luck
Stewart
