Theres a lovely little village a few miles from Icmeler named Turunc. Its in a pretty small bay with lovely restaurants and shops.
Its a boat ride away or a Dolmus ride over the mountains from Icmeler.
I am returning to Icmeler for the umpteenth time in May but staying in the old village at the foot of the hills.
Its a million miles away from the lively part of the resort but only a 15 minute walk.
This may be suitable for you as its very quiet with holiday makers staying next door to the friendly locals.
There are also some lovely restaurants here so no need to venture to the main resort which is gorgeous anyway and in my opinion the most scenic and friendliest Turkish resort. :sun2

dalyan is the most beautifull place in turkey but it is river based 40min boat trip to beach and lot of restaurant/bars but not great deal to occupy teenagers in my opinion..

Turunc is lovely, small, unspoilt but not too quiet, nice beach. It's a bit of a trek from the airport, over the mountains but worth it when you get there.

Turunc is very nice and not too "over done" if it is the "real turkey " you are interested in then surprisingly the big resorts such as marmaris and bodrum offer a far more Turkish experience if you stray away from the tourist areas as they are working towns Antalya is very nice also and has a wonderful old town, olu deniz is pretty but just a resort and it is as easy to buy a full English watch sky sports and sing karaoke here as in hisaronu, icmeler, marmaris ,gumbet, etc etc Dalyan is a wonderful town and I recommend it .if you are not into the " Brits abroad thing" why did you enjoy olu ???? Fethiye yes has a traditional atmophsphere but olu is a pretty beach with eateries and bars aimed at the Brits and that is basically itI think Antalya or bodrum would suit you (very European ). If it's an "upmarket " resort you require then Kalkan , Dalyan , turgutries, akyaka, bitez,Torba turunc or gocek are for you but I'm afraid a Brits abroad atmosphere is available in most"resorts "as they are just that resorts however I think the resorts around Antalya cater more for Russian and German guests perhaps this would suit you more

Thanks all for your replies, they were all very helpful. I've decided to try Ichmeler but have booked at the Mola Apartments which are in the old town area of Ichmeler. Anyone familiar with them? Turunc sounds great and I'm sure we will make a couple of trips there during our stay. Anyone know how long the transfer takes from Dalaman airport. I've seen different opinions of between 1hr 30mins to 3hrs! I plan on booking a minibus transfer, which usually carry around 16 people. Thanks again for your info, this forum site is great!

When we stayed in the old village 2 years ago it took us about 90 minutes transfer.
We always arrive around midnight so there is not much traffic about so it is quicker than during the day although now that the new dual carriageway is open the transfers are quicker.
Some drivers get a bit "lost" if not familiar with the area but there is usually a guest on board that directs them!
I have probably passed the mola as we have wandered around all the roads in the village.
If you look on Google earth and put Mola into the search you will see exactly where is is.
There are some lovely restaurants there,Wembley Bar,Sidiks,Captain Sinbads,Love star,Bar One and several others.
We love it there and its totally different from the main resort and is surrounded by stunning scenery. :tup There is also a dogs home at the back of the village run by a lovely English and Turkish woman.
You can take the dogs out for a walk if this is something your children would enjoy.

Aw dogs home sounds fab and would help with missing our own dog who unfortunately can't come with us! :cry

Ive looked on Google earth and you are right at the back of the village.
The dogs home is not far from there but the ladies who run it are not always there..
The barman in the 3/4 Bells restaurant also helps there and he can tell you whats the best time to visit.
They have a Facebook page named Icmeler Animal Welfare.

difficult to give an accurate time on mini bus transfers, as a lot can depend on who you book them with and wether all the passengers on the bus are from your flight.
I have booked transfers through Low cost Hols and Travel Republic before now and have had to wait at the airport for another flight arriving before actually setting off.

Hi C.C. As there are four of you it may be almost as cheap to book a private transfer. This will ensure you get to your resort much quicker than in a shuttle mini-bus. A private transfer will cost about £100 (return) depending on which company you use.

I am sure you will like Icmeler. It's a lovely place.
