We're looking to go for a week's self catering holiday to Majorca in October and would like to do some moderate walking and possibly visit some historical sites. We will be relying on public transport to get around.
What resorts are a good base for walking and sightseeing? Do you have any you recommend or any hotels?
Any suggestions much appreciated.

We like this area, the bus service is fairly good to get around the old towns of Pollensa and Alcudia with roman remains and museums, and boat trips to Formentor headland.
There are trips from here to explore the west coast with towns like Valdemosa and Puerto de Soller.
It's quite a long journey to Palma, though, where most of the main sights are.

Thanks for the information. That sounds like a good place to go.
The "long journey to Palma" is one hour on the regular bus sevice.
I was blown away the first time I saw it, when I go back to Majorca next year it'll be on my list of things to do again
