Hving been to several places where this is rife( Rio and Saigon being two) I would suggest that you do not carry a bag which you would upset to lose. Its Goa- so no need to have a lot of money in it. Your bag should have a shoulder strap and you can put the strap crossways over- I never like doing that so I have mine inbetween myself and hubby.
Same goes for jewellery. I did not even wear costume jewellery that looked expensive!
Thanks for the warning GFF- it is always good to be in the know.

I never carry a bag - either use husband's pockets or my trusty bum bag. Not exactly glamous (the bum bag, not the husband), especially in the evening, but feel safer. This also means I am less likely to leave a bag in the restaurant - so easy to do after a few bevvies.

Sorry to hear this problem has arrived in Goa (I know there was an incident last year) but by and large it is a safe place to be.

It nearly happened to friends of ours about 6 weeks ago, they were coming out of the Marinha Dourada turning left towards Mo Jo's. 2 lads on a scooter the pillion passenger made a grab for her bag but she held on to it and he fell off the bike :!: The taxi drivers ran over and told our friends to leave it to them, they probably gave them 'a sound thrashing' :)
