Last Tuesday afternoon they caught a male leopard in Miramar (the beach area between Panjim and Dona Paula. 4 am in the morning dogs barking in the house woke the owner up and she saw it in the lounge area. She phoned police and it stayed within her compound walls when chased out by two of her "ferocious" dogs (their words not mine). Then it went into another house compound staying hidden under bushes . It took until afternoon to get darts etc to tranquilise it, by this time it was reported that thousands of people were lining the streets. Same as when there's an accident a crowd soon assembles doesn't it. Caged and taken to the Bondla Zoo mid afternoon to be checked over by the vet before it is released in to the wild again. Pug marks were found on the beach and speculation is that it swam across from Sinquerim, they've caught big cats up near the Fort Agauda previously (when local pet dogs start disappearing it's time to put a trap down. Others say it could have come from the forest area around Dona Paula. We may never know now.
