Hi Has anyone used the T1 Business Class Lounge recently. I used it a couple of years ago when we upgraded our Emirates flight to business with Skywards points and quite frankly it was rubbish - the worst lounge I had ever used in the UK. I would though like to book the lounge as a surprise for my daughter and her partner as a surprise when they go to Dubai early next year but and was wondering if anyone had any recent experiences. Do you think it's got any better over the past couple of years?
Are Yates/Wetherspoons serving the same food as there high street pubs and are they the same kinda prices or more expensive, also do they offer the same deals that their high street pubs offer.
We will be using an eatery in the Departure lounge and will be taking 2 kids which place would people recommend for choices that cater for kids.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Flybe is increasing flights between Birmingham and Glasgow as a rival withdraws services....

I live on the outer edges of the flight path for Birmingham Airport. The other day we were watching the planes overhead and trying to decide amongst ourselves whether the plane was departing or arriving.
My sisters partner said that they switch ends of the runway at lunchtime?????? They land and take off in a certain direction and then after lunch - swap ends??? He said he had this info on good authority from someone who worked at the airport.
I argued that I was sure it was wind direction that alternated the runway direction?? The planes fly over our garden in all directions morning, noon and night.
Any help would be appreciated
Active runways depend on the wind direction. Aircraft should always take off / land in to the wind, although there are limits for tail wind take off / landing. I'll not go in to the reasons why, but time of day doesn't dictate which end of the runway is used, it's purely the prevailing wind conditions.

Words of warning to people who are thinking of using NCP at Birmingham airport. My wife recently parked her car in this "secure" long stay there. On her return the front fog lamps had been removed from the car. I did contact NCP and ask them if they would pay for them to be replaced but they hid behind their Ts and Cs (no surprise there then) I did ring the police to get a crime number and in the conversation with the nice lady there it appears that the car parks there are going through a spat of crimes, over 10 in the last couple of weeks that had been reported to them so there may be more. Therefore maybe if you are looking to park at Birmingham you may want to look at another operator.
Where are you travelling from? Have you considered arriving by train? The nec train station is just a short walk away and you can leave the car at home...

unless you've arrived in the middle of the night there's no need to walk - use the free monorail shuttle from the station (opposite side to NEC exit) straight into T1.

Birmingham Airport is now expected to remain closed until at least 12 noon on Saturday, during which time flights are subject to diversion or cancellation. Passengers should check with their airlines for the latest information on flight status.
Birmingham Airport has just reopened. However, some flights may still be subject to delay or cancellation and so it is important that passengers continue to verify flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport today.
