Im just back from my first trip ever to Turkey (Bodrum) and I loved it. My dad who is 65 is interested in going next year and I was wondering where to go. Ive seen Gumbet, Bitez and obviously Bodrum and Bodrum would be the closest to what Im looking for.
Quaint, narrow streets, nice scenery, good base for trips, good restaurants bars etc - sight seeing and good trips are a must for him. Any help? Thanks
Has to be Icmeler, Not many hills in the centre of it, More Restauraunts/Bars than Gumbet or Bodrum everythings central.
i agree icmeler more to his tastes ,
In terms of the old, winding streets and the ruins everywhere, perhaps Side would be his cup of tea? It's steeped in history. Also potential for some good trips out to see sights. I posted about this on another thread >>>

The only thing I would say is that many hotels are well out of the centre, and having done that once, I prefer to be in the old central part for the atmosphere. Bustling, a bit of hassle, but antiquity hits you in the face when you emerge from your hotel/pension into the street.
More on what there is to do in the area

Brilliant thanks for the suggestions, Ill do my homework carefully and hopefully pick somewhere he will love
However, you should look for somewhere in the Old Town as many properties that are classed as Side can be as much as 5/6 miles away.
I would personally recommend Beach House Hotel which can be booked via Thomson (small and friendly), or if you are able to consider DIY, contact them direct at:

We were there in June 2007, and had a wonderful time.
Hope that this helps.

Yes Side has a lot of history but as you correctly state a lot of hotels are a distance from Side itself.
