Hi.
Off on Weds and was wondering what is Cyprus like for mossies and other flying bugs, is a repellant required other than my aftershave.
Also are there weaver fish in the water or other fish that may sting you if trodden on, and should my children wear shoes when they go swimming in the sea
We use repellant sometimes, but on our lower legs mainly to keep any ants away as they sometimes can be a nuisance when we are sat still in a bar or restaurant. Can't say we have ever been bothered by mossies, but maybe that's due to the air conditioning. They do sell all the mossie repellants over there, so there must be a problem sometimes for some people, but see how you go and buy them if need be.
I don't know a great deal about the various dangerous fish over in Cyprus, but if in the water over rocks then shoes are advisable due to the urchins, which are easy to stand on if the water is shallow.
We are off on Wednesday to Paphos, where are you going?
Amber and Karl
at the moment, but we are having problems with sand flies or ''noseeums flies'', these little bugers bite around your ankles and they itch to hell but do not blister like mossies bites, avoid after shaves or perfume, get a good local bug spray and use it around your lower legs at night when you go out.
Be warned it is very hot and also humid at the moment, I am aware that the UK is having very hot weather but Cyprus does have a very heavy humidity, you will always feel damp and sticky. personally apart from the motor I never use A/C, even if most of the time it would be nice to do so, you still have to go outside...I just sit in our pool.
Stone fish can be a problem in a few area's in Cyprus, Pissouri is one, but Pafos does not have them, I cant say the same for the east of the island as I just don't know, my advice if you are swimming in those areas wear some rubber shoes.
