Hi.
In august me and the family went to bulgaria ( sunny beach- sun village apartments ).
the day before we went home we had our apartment broken into.Lots taken a real mess.
police-rep (thompson) were called and usual finger printing statements taken.
police told me to go to the station the next morning to give a writen statement.
the holiday helpline arrainged our rep to go with me.
we spent over 4 hours there giving a statement and they completed a report.
i asked for a copy of the report but was told by the police and the rep that i wont get one.i asked why and the rep said they only give you a crime number ,but thats all you need.
i asked the helpline and they said the crime number will be ok.
on returning to the uk i contacted AXA for a claim form, this was completed and a reply was recieved asking for a police report or a resort reps statement.
So i contacted thompson and they said they would get a report and forward it to me ( this was oct time).
i recieved a letter from thompson today ( 16-11-06) saying they would not be able to help me with this claim .they stated that they now have no reps in resort and that they dont know where the original rep is now!.
I duly phoned thompson to see what they could do and why they couldnt help me now,but got the same responce.resort closed-dont know where rep is now,and were sorry but would be unable to help me further.
it was like a brick wall, the service adviser would not give me any suggestions as what else to do,would not put me through to any one higher.
I commented that i had been missadvised in resort by the rep and by the holiday line regarding the report and basicly she said Tough-nothing they could do now - too late.
i have now phoned Ros and will be sending all relivant paper work to her.
feel let down by thompson .obviously AXA will try there best to get out of the claim but thompsons now in league with them.
anyone else had a simular problem ?
just looks like we have lost thousands and nothing we can do.
steve
AXA will try there best to get out of the claim
With all respect your comment is unfair. AXA are asking for confirmation of the details - they are not asking for the Police report. They will be happy with a copy of the report by the rep. Something that I would expect to in the possesion of THOMSON.
Reps are required to produce documentation of incidents - if only to protect THOMSON is the case of any legal action against them.
Not suggesting that your claim is not valid, but anyone can claim to have been robbed and give a number. Particularly when it has happened in another country.
In my opinion it is THOMSON who are the guilty party here. It is possible that the documentation is still in the office in resort and they have no one on site to look for it

right poor old Axa.
They are a buisness and like all others want to make as much as possible.
They arnt very helpfull and same goes for thompson .
But thompson wont loose money out of my claim.
except i wont travel with them again.
but thanks for your valuble input.
Yes thompson are to blame.
steve
I would have thought that Thomson (not Thompson) should have more than one copy of this report - it may mean that you have to keep pushing them to find it - sometimes you have to make a nuisance of yourself.
well done that at the time you were making the statement to the ploice and they were writing the report, you had the foresight to ask for a copy.
pity however, that having been refused a copy you then failed to write up your own report for the rep. and obtain his/her signature/stamp.
This report, quoting the police crime ref. number would likely have sufficed for Axa.
As fwh points out, Axa will need a full list of all items stolen, the value of such, receipts were appropriate etc etc. You should, for your own protection, have compiled such a list anyway for both the local police and your own claim upon return.
Have you considered contacting the hotel directly and asking them to fax confirmation of the reported theft, date, room number etc. this will at least provide Axa with irrefutable proof that a crime has been committed.
Another option. You mentioned the "holiday line". I guess this is some kind of Thomson help line - might they not have a record on their systems of your call - maybe even a transcript could be provided. Yet further indication of the crime.
Finally, the Bulgarian police presumably asked you to sign the statement. I'd personally be unhappy about signing any police statement without being given a copy. I presume this statement was written by the police - in Bulgarian ? Do you know what you've signed ?
I'd hold off from getting uptight about Axa at this stage, and I'd be polite with Thomson as you NEED their assistance.
Good Luck.
the report was indeed in bulgaria....
probably married some gypsy somewhere and one day they will turn up at my door.
steve
I wish you well in your endeavours to recover your losses; you'll need luck with your attitude.
I'm out of here.
Mike
thanks for your valuble input .
i just think your trying to wind me up.
and in no way was i being racist.
i posted my problem for advice and to warn others in the same situation.
thats what this sites for.
not for you to make derogatory remarks pointing out mistakes, and what i did wrong.
i have already done that.
thanks pippa i will keep pushing Thomson (spelt it right this time)
steve
sorry to hear about your break in
I might be wrong - but the first thing that struck me here is why not try the police station? I know the resort is closed for the season in the traditional sense but surely there are still local residents etc in sunny beach? I wouldn't expect the police station to be "seasonal" if this is the case! They would have the info you need surely.
If you can't find out the details yourself you could try the Bulgarian embassy in London who might be able to give you a phone number for the police dept.
Hope you have some luck!
caroline
WE have friends who were in Albena who had a similar problem and they GOT a translated Police report BUT they had to DEMAND it and Demand it Translated
So you were mis-informed by Thom son (space to stop that ***autolink)
The friends were with FC and their Rep was as helpful as she could be

Sorry Caroline, but you are wrong. No one actually lives in Sunny Beach, or Golden Sands for that matter.
I would hazard a guess that the police stations operational during the season will be manned by officers drafted in from surrounding areas, and are closed at this time of year.
Madcaravanner is on the right lines. The matter was mishandled by the Th ompson Rep when the matter was reported to the company in the resort. It should be common knowledge throughout the travel industry that claims from insurance companies will fail if a police report is not obtained.
