Hi,we have just returned from Alcudia yesterday and yes you can get a bus to Palma, the journey takes about 75 minutes,I would avoid going on a Thursday as that when Inca market is on and the buses fill up even quicker than usual.

There are plenty of Hire companies who will hire you a People Carrier!
Of course if there is 22 of you then, no you wont find a vehicle big enough. Generally you can hire something like a Hyundai, Mercedes, Renault Traffic 8 or 9 seater ( maybe more seats) from around 136 euros for one to two days, its cheaper if you have a longer hire duration.
If the costs are shared between your group it may work out very cheap to hire for, say, a week and it would allow you to go and explore!

There's a regular bus service from Alcudia to Palma, the cost is around 9 Euros return. There is only one stop in Palma, at the main bus terminus. So if you are heading for the old town, the main shopping precinct and the cathedral then turn left out of the terminus and head straight on down, past the train station, across a wide road then thru the Plaza Espania. Best to get a map as you will then get lost in the maze of streets in the old town.
You can hire people carriers but that will work out expensive. In any event I would advise that you don't take a vehicle into Palma town. It's a jungle of one-way streets and other restrictions and Spanish drivers are not renowned for their patience towards lost and wandering tourist drivers. Best by bus.

You need to get to the main bus terminus in Palma. I guess there will be a bus from Palma Nova to there. The return bus fare from Palma to Alcudia is between 8 and 9 Euros. Takes about 1 hour, sometimes less.

Palma bus station to Alcudia....
1 hour, around 4.50 Euros one way.
Buses at...
Monday thru Saturday...
08:00 09:30 10:15 11:00 11:30 12:00 13:00 14:00 15:00 16:00 16:30

For return times you will easily get a timetable either on the bus or at Alcudia. The times are roughly 1&1/2 hours back from those above.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the public transport is like to get out of Sa Coma. Whilst we are in Majorca we would really like to visit Alcudia but i'm struggling to find any info on the net on how to do that. I'm not really keen on hiring a car - i went mad driving around Dublin so god knows how i'd cope on the other side of the road.

Any suggestions?

You need to find a local bus terminus and buy return tickets (ida y vueltas). Also, make sure you are suitably dressed, as they dont let you on the buses in skimpy beach gear!

We stayed in Cala Bona 3 years ago & the bus service on this part of the island was fantastic, always on time & cheap :D
The time tables were easy to follow & they let you on the bus regardless of what you were wearing, you shouldnt have a problem getting up & down the coast

We stayed in Santa Ponsa this year & (as reported on this site) what bus service

Maybe i should have said 'what you are NOT wearing'...as in no shirt etc. The driver wouldnt let me on in Alcudia, i think it was, so i whipped the mrs's top off and tried that. Altho i looked stupid in a pinkish ladies top, he allowed me on....but then stop the mrs getting on in just a bikini top and skirt. We had to get off and go back for a shirt.
Oh to be young and foolish again.

Yes, there is a regular bus service between Alcudia/Palma, roughly every hour. There is only one stop in Palma, the main bus station which is a few hundred yards from the main shopping area.
