We are near to completion with the purchase of our apartment in International city,Dubai.
We are wondering if it is easy to set up a bank account in Dubai.
In spain we needed an NIE number to open our account.
Has anyone bought out there?
Looking to go out soon to sign.
Has anyone used an agent for furnishings etc?
It would be nice to hear from anyone in a similar situation.

Not sure on Bank accounts now but when we opened one at HSBC we had letter from UK branch + passports to open it, all done in approx an hour. Think Lloyds are there or try looking at bank websites.
Make sure you have all your contracts signed by all parties, all receipts for handover, you should get final receipts and completion statement, then we had to go to separate office, sign again, they gave us vouchers for cleaning and pest control and forms for transferring electric etc. This will probably vary depending on your developer. Our agent came with us and oversaw everything.
thanks for your reply, the packages look great. Did you actually see the furniture. It looks great on the website. Is there a choice. Did you use them. What about Curtains?
Did you buy on IC.
We used gowealthy for our purchase.
We heard a rumour that ours is completing in Jan06. We are not booking any flights until we know for sure.
We might call in HSBC for info. I will also try my Bank.
Probably will need a fiscal rep or accountant when we go.
Thanks Dianne & Colin.
The apartment was at Burj Dubai so Emaar. Should have been ready Jan 06, then Aug but eventually end of September so as you say wait until firm date. Also we had to have a snagging check before handover so instead of going twice paid to have that done and went for handover although they will do that as well for you. Also Emaar will fax the date for handover once snagging is done but these tend to go astray and you get charged interest for going over.
Snagging Company are part of http://www.dubailuxuryhomes.com under services, same people who do furniture. Very good, they sent list of faults and pictures.
Thanks for the info. I have found the prices of furniture to be cheaper than UK.
Cheers Dianne & Colin
