Hi Pete where are you staying while on holiday .Cheers Dave
Hi Pete
You should always use the cashpoint machines as that is where you will get the best exchange rate. You can also take the money out as and when you need it.
Not always, when we were last in Malta a few months ago the rate was much better in some of the shops that exchange money than by using a cashpoint machine.
use a Nationwide debit card and there is no commission and wholesale exchange rates are applied
I'm applying for a Nationwide account
We have a BOV account and it works brilliantly, the charges for transfering funds are next to nothing either if you pay your holiday money in by cheque whilst in Malta or even by post from uk.
thanks all for the swift replies. me thinks my best thing to do is put my cash in my bank and bring a cashpoint card, take out lira as i need it. travel agents here do not charge commission though i think the rate is loaded in their favour. to the person who asked where i staying, dont laugh but staying at a place in buggiba, starts with palm and ends in court please, i said dont laugh. look, i know all about its reputation so dont tell me, i just go cheap to sleep and eat, like hostel, when we at malta we go out all day every day. looking forward to seeing the carnivals in valletta. once again thankyou for your help.
Have a great holiday Pete, and please ask if there are any other questions that you might have about Malta and I / we will be only too happy to help you.
hi all, sorry to be a pain again but does maltese cash machines accept cash/debit cards from natwest bank? it is a solo maestro and cirrus card.
Hello pete, yes they do, but watch the charges can be a bit steep.
Whenever I have used my RBS Highline cirrus card. I am charged £2.50 per withdrawal However I do get a good rate of exchange
