Did you have a lovely holiday Jeffro?

Can't believe they're going to knock down the Cala Bona Hotel....it's been there forever :( It took them about 3 years to gut the Gran Sol and refurbish it...it'll take them 10 years if they're going to knock it down completely...will spoil the harbour totally while work is going on I'd say!

Will be very interested to see the Temi when we go :cheers

My understanding is that they are rebuilding the Cala Bona rather than knocking it down permanently, as the work they wanted to do was quite major, they decided it was better to rebuild - that way the foundations and general structure can be strengthened at the same time.

Jeffro, you had put it was being re-built :)

It just seems so sad to see it go and it's been there forever (well not quite but you know what I mean). I can still remember sitting in a boat in the harbour about to go on a day trip would have been 1974/5 and looking up to see the Hotel Cala Bona...the only part I can remember of that trip apart from having my head over the side of the boat being sick :rofl

When you think it was virtually 3 years for them to gut and re-furbish the Gran Sol.......if they're going to knock it down and re-build it'll be a lot longer and the harbour area just won't be the same.

I guess if it needs doing, it needs doing but I'll personally be VERY sad to see it go.

whoops, so you did Jeffro, sorry.

The original plan was to start in October with only next year affected, back to normal the year after. Not sure if that has changed or if its realistic though.

I guess if they go absolutely all out it MIGHT happen Louise, but this is Spain and with all those siesta's.......what I want to know is where they're going to put the webcam in the meantime.....I'll miss being able to log on to see what's going on in the harbour each day :)

Glad I'm in good company Louise :)

My kids won't miss my running commentary on what's happening mind......"Ooh the sea cat's coming in....Oooh the sea cat's going on.....look there's the strange man with the flying goggles on his bike in the harbour....." etc etc

when we were there in May we were told that the refurbishment of the bar which they had hoped to have completed before the start of the season had to be put on hold for various reasons. We were given to understand that the work will start when the season finishes. Didn't hear any suggestion that the hotel was going to close!!

Jeffro you were right about Marins Playa Suites being posh....ohhhh their pools are to die for! Empty half the time too, such a waste! Amazing sunbeds too...would have literally killed to go in for a proper look but had to be content with having a gander from the roof terrace of our apartments which were next door :)

Can't see how you book them tho' as their website only has the hotel/apts across the road.

Some friends of mine have just returned from the Cala Bona Hotel, and I had told them that I had read on HT about it being closed and rebuilt next year.
They were told it is only being re-furbished ie rooms being upgraded gradually and no demolition, according to Sebastian (the manager I believe).
Does anyone have any further information please?

That sounds more positive, I was wondering where my webcam was going to go ;) I know Thomson are still selling hols to Cala Bona Hotel next year so assume it's going to be still standing....or at least some of the buildings!

Had an e-mail from CBH the "bar building" is being upgraded over the winter months.

Majorcagirl - Sebastian is the owner the other Sebastian is the head waiter.

The webcam is now facing back away from the harbour....looks like the builders have moved it :(

Webcam has now moved...left of it's last position and appears to be showing the building behind which is being gutted....lots of rubble coming from inside the building but externally all seems okay.....for now!
