Hi All,
We are going to the Sa Marina hotel in Cala D'Or for kids half term at the end October. We are staying self catering so are looking at some good recommendations for places to eat.
Also things to do - especially if the weather takes a turn fopr the worst.
Any hints or tips on where to eat and things to do in and around Cala D'Or would be appreciated.
Also, has anyone been to the Sa Marina. We paid extra to make sure we were in a good hotel with an indoor pool - so have high expectations. Anyone been there recently? I've seen some reviews and they look quite good!
Cheers
Colin
Hi, cant remember the name of it but there was steak house right in the centre of Cala d'or it had antlers and things outside so it should be easy to find. Huge portions, great kids menu and great prices. they had an all you can eat ribs night (think it was a Tuesday) for a ridiculous price.
Lovely place, would thoroughly recommend it.
Stoole - have you eaten in the hotel yet - either for breakfast or dinner? If so how much does it cost and would you recommend. Have a great holiday!!
Thanks
Colin
We actually went B&B. However, we did eat in the hotel one night for the 'gala dinner'. This cost about 17 or 18 euros and you basically got 3 courses. The food was pretty good though it was a bit of a mix of Majorcan, English, German. Not sure how much the breakfasts are - not alot though I don't think.
Is the weather bad in October in Majorca?
however you are (from experience!) never guaranteed wall to wall sunshine and hot temperatures in October. Last October in that part of the med was very rainy.
so its a fingers crossed, hope for the best time to go - when the sun's out its lovely, think high summer here.
Hi My Partner,Son 15, Daughter 7 and I went to Cala D'or in August it was the most relaxing holiday I have every had. We went self catering and ate out the whole time we were there. During the days at the beach we ate at the cafe on the beach (Cala gran) nice food, pleasant service. For our evening meals we ate for most of the 14 nights at fontella/steak+grill this is an Italian resturant but it has a grill as well, you can get pasta dishes, fish, pizza, steaks, ribs ( unlimited ribs is what you get just keep asking for more in any flavour and thats what you will get all night if you can eat it). The owner is now a friend and so are the staff, we were hoping to go back in October too, but unfortunatly its not to be. By the way you will find this place just behind Hollywood Bar. Cant miss that they have Karaoke on the terrace. Behind the restuarant theres also a bar which has live entertainment. Enjoy your holiday.

Anyone got any other suggestions on wear to eat in Cala D'Or - we are staying at the Sa Marina Hotel? We usually like to try a few restaurants just to mix it up a bit!
Thanks
Colin
Hi, I went to Cala D'or a couple of years ago. A couple of my favourite places to eat were the Aquamarina and C'an Trompe restaurants. They are both in the pedestrianised area in the centre of Cala D'or. C'an Trompe is the more expensive, but they do a set menu before 7ish, which is good value for money. Their tumbet vegetables and ailoi to start are to die for!
Hi the average meal cost around 6 Euros and the unlimited ribs were 12 Euros
Thanks for all advice given. Any other recommendations of where to eat and good places to go out for a drink at night in Cala D'Or gratefully received. We are a family of 4 - kids 12 & 9.
The Marfils Tavern near to Cala gran beach is one of the best places to eat in in Cala D'or, the portions are good and it is very reasonable. We came home 3 weeks ago and things were starting to close down then. A trip to the Caves of Drach up the coast is well worth it.
We are just back and it is a bit hard to recommend anywhere as there are restaurants closing for the season on a daily basis now
I would have thought with it being UK half-term holiday (week comm. 23/10) that a majority of places would remain open. It's a bit worrying if most places will be shut!
Can anyone offer any other advice. Don't really want to eat in the hotel, at least not every night. What about bars as well? Hotel entertainment can be okay for the odd night but for a whole week it'll make us all go mad!
Thankyou
Hi cpandk. We thought about going to Sa Coma (which is on the east coast) during October half term but we have decided to stay at home . I had heard from someone living there that a couple of the large bars were cancelling their entertainment for the remainder of this month. We were there last October and managed to catch 'Elvis' but other than that it was very quiet and a lot of the bars were winding down. I am surprised because I thought all bars/restaurants would stay open till at least end of October to coincide with the UK half term. Could be that the bar/restaurant owners are happy with a 5/6 month season. Just wondering what other resorts are like in October, ie Cala Bona, Cala Millor
Next thing someone will be telling me there's rain due all next week in Majorca! (please don't!)
Please please - someone reassure me! Cala D'or is one of the larger resorts, there must be something going on?
Hi. We went to Sa Coma last year and stayed at the Safari Park which has a large German clientle. We found that the complex was always busy during the day but when we ventured out at night we thought 'where is everyone'. I think the Safari Park was all inclusive (if you wanted this option) so I suppose a lot of the guests stayed put It didn't put us off we had a great time. Me and two friends (with our kids ages 16, 13, 11 and 10) found enough to do but it certainly wasn't Magaluf.
Unfortunately we are not AI but SC so will be out and about a bit. i suppose we will just have to cross our fingers and make the best of it!
