Thanks Kath
Graham had a great birthday, many surprises and a good time.
This dial up is VERY slow, details will follow soon.
Graham
Thanks for popping in - have a great time
That's great, glad he had a day to remember. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!
Well we are back and I have just about recovered
As you know this was to be a quiet and relaxing holiday for us, and I am pleased to say that is what it turned out to be.
Normally I like to get out and about and explore but after this year a slow paced holiday was required, and Cala Egos was ideal for that.
Now where to start
The hotel Marina Skorpios a good place to start me thinks.
The hotel Marina Skorpios and its sister hotel the Marina Corfu are located directly on the small inlet and beach of Cala Egos, a very nice setting especially when you get a room with a sea view
The 2 hotels are very modern, exceptionally clean with good facilities and a good choice of bars and being AI never ending food or liquid refreshments. The staff in both hotels were exceptionally friendly and nice to everybody and couldn't be faulted in anyway. I will put a review of the hotel on soon.
Grahams birthday, well we never made it on the night of his birthday a phone call to our room asking us to go to reception stopped us going out, the hotel had noticed that it was Grahams birthday and informed us that they would be making a cake and giving it to him a dinner on his birthday, see the picture below, oooooh was he embarrassed
Cala Egos, this is a small resort with a limited number of restaurants and shops, however I think there is plenty of choice for both eating and shopping for a weeks holiday and Cala d'Or is only a twenty minute stroll away or 5 minutes in a taxi (5 euro) I did here a few people complain about the location as they thought they were in the outskirts of Cala d'Or they didn't realise they were in different resort
Eating, as we were AI we eat a few times in the hotel and the rest in Cala Egos at the La Marina which was very nice ( thanks titch, spot on with your directions to the marina by the way) and a visit to Rocamarina which was superb and a must do again if (when) we go back, and without a doubt what was everybody's favourite........................................Acuarius at the marina.
The food, atmosphere and staff in Acuarius was outstanding and as this was where we were going for Grahams birthday it was perfect, and he loved it, almost as much as he loved the yachts in the harbour how much do they cost ?
We had four lovely starters, four superb main courses ( my John Dory was the nicest fish I have ever tasted) three desserts, two bottles of wine, several soft drinks, a huge JD & coke for the birthday boy and a (lovely, 15 euro a glass) armagnac for me for only 140 euros.
Thanks to everybody on here for all the informaton and recommendations that you gave me we had a great time, unfortunatly not long enough to try all the restaraunts you suggested, however I am sure we will go back and spend a bit more time and try more restraunts and also get out and explore much more of Majorca.
One thing I must also mention is the weather it was very and warm, I was surprised by how nice it was.
MMMMMMMM, can dad have a birthday kiss as well

Having been keeping an eye on the forum to see how you all got on.
Really pleased you enjoyed the Acuarius! Bit nerve racking when you recommend somewhere for a special occasion!
Plus thanks for reminding us of the name of the ugly fish my husband had on his birthday at the Acuarius - the 'John Dory'!
We couldn't remember it for love nor money!
Must admit this year's holiday in Cala D'or was one of the best ive ever had! So relaxing - simply wonderful!
Glad yours was the same
Here's to next year - sharing a villa in Cyprus with sister and her family (not as relaxing as this year I think!!!). Just trying to sort out cheap flights - not easy! Will probably all cancel and return to Cala D'or!
Had a fantastic time in the most gorgeous apartment we have ever had. It had a 45 foot long terrace divided into 3 different areas, sun bathing, eating and relaxing and best of all south facing. A small swimming pool was shared with the other apartment which like ours slept 2 people. All overlooking a little inlet and the sea near the Fort in the Es Forti area. The sea was fairly rough and you could hear it crashing over the rocks at night.
We have to confess that we did nothing apart from visits to the local supermarket and marina! We decided that our terrace had the best views from a dining table so chose to eat there everynight. The local eroski supermarket was so cheap - we actually spent very little - the apartment was quite expensive but you do get what you pay for.
The weather was very warm with a couple of storms over the sea which were quite impressive.
We needed a really good rest and that is exactly what we got - and Air Berlin were as usual very good (and far from full).

You did well hippyjak in your recommendation, Suzanne had the Tiramisu and loved it.
I had an armagnac called William Pitter which was lovely, does anybody know if you can buy it here in the UK ?
I am sure you will love Cyprus next year.
I went to the Marina Skorpios last year & are looking to go back again next year. Do you know who are doing this hotel this year as First Choice are no longer doing it.
Sunstart (part of FC) and the company we used, Seguro who operate out of Glasgow Prestwick are the only 2 british companies that were in the hotel, and as you have said FC are not going there next year.
You could try emailing Marina hotels and asking which tour operator will be using the Skorpios next year
skorpios@marina-hotels.com
Or give the hotel a phone
(+34) 971 65 76 00
I hope you can find a company that goes.
Graham
Hi Stuart, did you manage to find a tour operator?I can inform you that Cosmos and Portland are doing the hotel,if you found any others could you let me know?
