Hi, we're off to cala d'or for a few nights on monday!
Just wondering if anyone has any good restaurant/bar recommendations for us?
We are both in our late 20's (well past the binge drinking clubbing stage!!) and like good food followed by a quiet cocktail!
The problem is, everyone tells us there are 'loads' of nice restaurants, but how do we know which ones to choose?
One we'd definitely like is a good authentic italian, maybe a mexican too and of course a good spanish restaurant? Always good to sample local cuisine!
Looking forward to the replies, and I promise to feedback on my return!
Thanks x
I can recommend a restaurant called
The best Mallorquian is Can Trompe, which is in a lovely location in the centre of town, and opposite it is another restaurant owned by the same family called Es Cailu. I would also recommend a lovely restuarnt called Fernandos, and for Italian Mamma Mias - lovely home cooked food - I love the Spagetti Cartoccio ( seafood spagetti).
For cocktails, Cheeki Tikki on the marina ( on the far side not the Cala Dor side), or the Upstairs Bar in the centre of town is good for your age ( literally upstairs above the restaurants in the centre. There are a number of Hawaiian style bars that sell cocktails and they too are good. Tommys Bar opposite the crazy golf does the best sangria as well as a range of other cocktails - the prices are good and its a good people watching spot.
Hope you have a great time - I'm off there for six weeks on Tuesday and cant wait!
Anyway, restaurants- We went to Acuarious on the first night, we weren't impressed I'm afraid to say. The food was nice, but the service wasn't great. We always eat quite late on holiday, around 10pm, so it wasn't busy. We had to ask for our order to be taken after sitting with the menus for 25mins! Like I said though, the food was nice, shame the staff let us down. I had fillet steak stroganoff, and it wasn't stroganoff sauce, it was more like a bland gravy. ok, but not great.
For our 2nd night, we went to Indiana Johns. Now, just to be clear, I am not into 'themed' (which it actually isn't, just sounds like it is!) restaurants, but this one was recommended by tripadvisor. It was amazing! We had food from the Thai menu, it was very authentic, this was our favourite by far.
On our 3rd night, we fancied having mexican, so we ate at a restaurant called Taste of Texas which was very good too. Big portions and hearty mexican style food.
On our last night we ate at Zocalo (at the marina), it was fabulous! Great food, wine and staff! Perfect way to end the perfect holiday!
It's my favourite restaurant in the world, let alone Cala D'or - we've always had fantastic service and the food is normally mouth watering!! The salted sea bass is to die for!!
Hope they haven't changed ownership!!
Will have to wait till August to find out
Also, they did redeem thereselves by giving us a free starter of crostini, it was really nice. I think they realised their mistake which is why we got this.
Cala D'Or is such a lovely place, I miss it already!x
We went half board last year and doing the same this year but still manage a few nights out at Acuarius!
Love just watching the world go buy and they make such a fuss of our little one, watching her grow up year on year!!
Roll on August!!
