Cala Millor

The Castell De Mar is situated towards the bottom of the resort (Sa Coma end) and very much in the 'German Zone' as we call it....not being horrible when I say that but it's a term we use based on 11 years of travelling to Cala Millor and Cala Bona. It doesn't feel as welcoming as the top half of the resort (Cala Bona end) or indeed Cala Bona itself which has more welcoming feel both in bars and shops, there are still hotels geared more up towards German guests but it just feels better than that end of the resort....in my opinion!

We love both resorts and whilst away frequently walk down to the bottom end of Cala Millor either to visit Viper Centro, Lidl or S'Estanyol (big toy/sportswear shop) so it's not like it's a no-go area (just in case that's what you're thinking).

I too have this hotel on my shortlist for next year. I don't mind being in a hotel that isn't predominantly British, but I wouldn't want to miss out on entertainment etc. due to language barriers.
I do like the look of Sa Coma/Cala Millor and Cala Bona (though to a lesser extent because of the 'poorer beach'), which hotels should I be looking at in these resorts for a family with 2 small children?

There are a couple of Family Resort hotels in the Thomson brochure in this area - both 4 star - might be worth a look. With Thomsons the entertainment is usually in English!

We have stayed at the Castell de Mar a few years ago- it was a very nice hotel.
The beach is much better at that end of the resort.
Last year we had a holiday in Cala Bona, the harbour was lovely, and the character of the place was nicer, but it was a bit of a bind walking to and from the beach every day!
As a couple, we liked the look and position of the Hotel Talayot for a future visit, because of it's situation in the middle, but not sure if it would be good for families.
Sa Coma has a very nice beach, very modern purpose built resort.

Hi Wayne. In Sa Coma I would take a look at the Vista Badia or Safari Park (both are Protur owned and I think you are welcome to use each others facilities??). My preference would be the Vista Badia because the Safari is huge and very German orientated! Not sure what the entertainment is like in any of them because it's a facility I don't use. If you want self catering, the Paraiso and Iris always get really good reviews and you could always call into the hotels for their entertainment ;)

The Talayot is in a great position in the middle and on the front with lots of good points ie food & friendleness, i would put a question mark on it if you wonted childrens entertainment. Mainly older people english but we are older anyway so we would go back

I think at that end of the resort you would find ntertainment geared more toward the German tourist. The Don Jaime is for both British and German tourists but the entertainment is more geared up for the Germans to be honest, or certainly used to be...bingo in German!!!!! Need I say more?

The Talayot is lovely and quite central.....we met a couple who had stayed at the Levante previously but were staying at the Talayot and they said they preferred it to the Levante. There is a nice small beach before the main beach in Cala Millor (near the jetty), in lower season I think they allowed the seaweed to build up but it was perfectly clear when we were there in August and we used it a lot...nice and shallow for the kids.

The Bonamar is a nice hotel (adults only) that's a bit further into Cala Bona past the Talayot...we stayed at apartments next door this year and their entertainment was good....we enjoyed it from our balcony at any rate).

If you choose a Protur hotel in either Cala Bona/Sa Coma (or even if you don't) make sure you give La Reserva a go in Sa Coma....all inclusive from 10.30am to 5.30pm....we had a great day, planning on going back a few times next year!

Thanks fir the suggestions, and sorry to the OP for hijacking their thread. We've booked flights only so far, as were travelling in the main summer holidays next year (first time). The Protur hotels are working out to be fairly expensive during our 2 weeks. Well keep the Talayot in mind. How does the Biniamar compare to other local hotels?

Haven't stayed at the Biniamar but it's quite central and looks okay from the outside.

Atolon in Cala Bona was very busy this year, again haven't stayed there but used their pool on an afternoon

Thanks again. The Playa del Moro is also looking quite good comparing price/reviews. Any thoughts on this hotel?

It's quite far down the resort.....in what we refer to as the German Zone....however Thomas Cook do the hotel and there are some reviews on their site which rate it quite highly...it does say guests are predominantly German but if that doesn't bother you too much then you should be fine.
