Hi there. This is my first post in the forum so hello everyone!
My husband and I and our 4yr old daughter are going to Cala n Forcat on 20 June 08 for 2 weeks. We're really excited as it's our first 'sun' holiday with our little girl. We're are from Northern Ireland so our school hols differ from the mainland. We've never been to Menorca and I was wondering if any of you good people could answer a few questions?!
1. We're staying self catering at the Roc Oasis appartments. Any good?
2. Do you think resort would be crowded at the time we're going? ie would we be fighting for sun-beds?-( 21 June?)
3. Are there a lot of mosquitos? I'm usually eaten alive (nearly sucked dry in Corfu!) so would like advance warning!
4. Is it a big hike to beach?
5. If we hire a car is there safety requirements regarding our daughter's seat? Can you rent appropriate car seat?
Many thanks in advance. I think this web-site is fantastic and in particular, this is a very warm, helpful and social forum.
Best wishes,
Fiona.
5.
We're also staying at the ROC Oasis Apartments on 23 May for 9 nights, so will post back and let you know what they are like.
If you look under the hotel reviews on this site however, you will see that there are lots of positive reviews about them. Sounds like its only a short trip to the beach also. (If you look on the following website, you will get more information on these apartments -www.roc-hotels.com)
We've been to Menorca in the past, and I personally have never had problems with Mozzies, although my husband always ends up getting bit - having said that, he manages to get bit on the local golf course, here in the Midlands
I doubt you would have problems getting sunbeds, especially as it is out of the school holiday period.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed, I'll post on here on my return.
Best Regards
Elaine
Thanks for getting back to me Elaine.
Never had any problems with mossies, as i to got eaten alive in corfu, and ended up getting them treated in the local medical centre!.
We hired a car from the car hire company opposite they were great as there was seven of us, three children needing child seats they were new seats we were given all graco make,p.s. if you are looking for a nice day out head to cala galdana, the beach is gorgeous and great for kids. hope this was of some help. Have a great holiday.
Enjoy your holidays.
Thanks for your replies. It's great to hear about the 'lack' of mozzies! Will hopefully live to tell the tale!
2. We were there in August and while it was fairly busy/crowded we never found we were unable to get sunbeds by the pool. There are two pools, one of which gets busier than the other so you can take your pick.
3. I wasn't aware of any problem with mosquitos all week we were there.
4. If you like a long beach with lots of sunbeds and beach bars etc then you'll be disapointed. Calan Forcat has a number of very small picturesque sandy coves so if that's your thing then you'll love it. As for your question is it a long hike, no, far from it. There are some steps at the back of the complex which lead straight down to one of the coves, you'll be there in 3 minutes, (5 if you walk very slowly!)
5. Didn't hire a car while we were there, but I can tell you there are alot of car hire places, including one directly opposite the entrance to the complex.
I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time there.
Thanks rigler for all your advice. Getting more excited by the minute!
