I may have to opportunity to go to a villa near Challis Beach. It would be perhaps next May. I having read the resort reports on here, they mostly say quiet resort. How quiet is it? How does it compare to Olu Deniz? Would the resort be fully open in May?
Looking for a fairly relaxed "chill out" holiday with some girlfriends of mine. We are in our forties.
Any relevant information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lorraine
Fancy seeing you on this board ~ been a while eh! lol
We paid a flying visit to Calis beach and actually quite liked the resort (altho both times we've now stayed in Olu), but its close to Fethiye and very easy to get to Hisaronu/Olu by Dolmus if you wanted to go further afield, I would imagine its quite nice as a base for a relaxed chill out holiday, but still being close enough and easy enough to get to other places should you want to liven things up. We went for our first time in May of last year, and everything was open, bars, restaurants etc
Hope you and your family are well . . .cannot believe that it is so long ago that we were in the Dom Rep!

It will be fully open. Mainly bars and restaurants along the sea front. Its not too quiet, I havent been to Olu though, so cant compare. Very easy to get to Fethiye, Hisaronu and Olu by Dolmus. Fethiye is great for a night out too.
Though we enjoyed Calis, there are some nice seafront restaurants there and the sunsets are nice to watch with a cool drink in hand, the beach is nicer at Olu and overall we preferred it in Olu.
They are both ideally located for visiting other places should you want a change of scene.
I have just returned from Calis and I have to say I loved it! My partner and I stayed in a private apartment, 10 mins walk to Calis beach which is where all the restaurants and bars are.
The whole place is nice, friendly and caters for everyone. There are loads of bars and good restaurants.... there are disco bars that go on til 4am.... there are chill out bars where you can just have a few drinkies and watch the sun go down.... it just depends what you want!
We also went to Olu Deniz and I agree it's a beautiful area and the beach is great but I found it more expensive than Calis and I dont think it caters any different. To be honest, we just wanted a chill-out holiday so Calis gave us exactly that.
We got the Dolmus from Calis to Fethiye, Hisaronu and Olu Deniz. Easy to use, very frequent and set prices for each journey. We also did the 12 Islands tour, Jeep Safari and Turkish Bath and the tour operators collected us from apartment so it's all very convenient.
I'd say go to Calis and enjoy!
we stayed in ovacik but travelled on the dolmus and taxi boat to callis, i really enjoyed it there, its a lovely chilled out beach where we just sat and watched the sun go down- beautiful with a effes or 2!
would definetly reccomend challis area its nice and chilled, and so easy to pop on a dolmus and visit nearby resorts.
Will we need to take jackets and cardi's for the evenings at this time of year?
Is there a large supermarket in the vicinity that would be worth stocking up in?
I understand there is a Sunday market in Calis, would it be just for souvenirs etc. or could we buy local fresh produce here?
Any tips and advice on this area would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lorraine
Lorraine, we have just returned from a short stay in Calis and visted the Tuesday market in Fethiye, 10 minutes away by dolmus. The market sells loads of fresh produce as well as the usual market stuff of clothes, shoes, console games etc. Even in December, there were enough bars and restaurants open and we had a great time. There are some largish supermarkets nearby, Tansas, Migros and Carrefour. Sure it will be great in May!
so nothing is to far
