My family and I will be going to the Costa Brava for the first time in two weeks and we want to hire a car at Gerona airport. I have been to many airports where the car hire firm desks are in the arrivals hall, and the actual vehicle is just a short walk away. Unfortunately I have also been to places where the car hire firms are kilometers away on some trading estate, and the only way to get to them is by a minibus packed to the roof with squealing kids and old ladies spitting tobacco and holding chickens (I may be exaggerating). There are three of us, and the others are not able to help with luggage, so I really would appreciate information from anyone who has hired a car at Gerona as to how easy/difficult it is - for example, do the reps meet you?, are there any reasonable cost car hire firms actually within the arrivals area? etc etc - any and all information gratefully received.
Cheers
You could try this firm. I've used them often at Tenerife airport and never had any problems with them.
We hired a car last June at Girona airport with Ryanair as they seemed to be about the cheapest, although the prices seem to go up the later you book so it might pay to book early. You collect the keys at the Hertz Desk which is located in the arrivals building (as are all the other Hire companys) and the Hire cars are very close in the Carpark outside. We did have to que for quite some time to be served as there were lots of people on our flight hireing cars. Next time we will leave our luggage on the carouse and get to the front of the que and then get our cases later!
I had already got some quotes and noted that Carjet seemed like a reasonable company, but I wasn't sure if their desk was in the airport or we would be met by a wizened old senor with a clipboard and a clapped out Seat Malaga to take us to their offices in the trading estate (there goes my imagination again...)
Any further information gratefully received!
Cheers
I'd agree with Maff. If your flight is with Ryanair, Hertz do a good discount & they're as cheap as anyone. Click through the car hire option on the Ryanair website. There are only 2 car hire desks at Girona, Hertz and (I think) Eurocar. And as Maff says, the queues can be long. I usually go and get the keys & leave the missus & sprog to get the bags from the carousel.
We've landed there before staying at the Taurus but i used Drivespain.com before and by the looks of it they don't provide cars at Gerona any longer
I've looked on carjet and it's too early for the dates i'm looking at so just wondered if anyone knew of the desks there as i can't remember any of them i'm afraid.
Also which desk do carjet use at the airport as when we used drivespain ithey were operating out of a van in the car park.
Change of plans as we are now going to fly BA into Barcelona instead so same question but need car rental places at Barca airport instead of Gerona:)
Thanks
EDIT: Merged with previous thread, which may provide some useful info while you wait for more feedback.

Carjet use Europcar/Goldcar at Gerona - the desk is in the arrivals hall
I know it's too late now but for other people we booked using carjet at gerona in 2005 and they use solmar cars who operate out of a van in the car park outside:)
It seems Easy Car are the cheapest, but can anyone confirm if the hire car pick up point for these guys is actually at the airport or will i need to arrange some form of transport to the Car Hire pick up point
Do i need to book in advance or should i wait until nearer the time in case Ryanair change flight times etc ??
If anyone is aware of a cheaper Car Hire option i am very much open to suggestions ??
Many Thanks
