Hi we are a family of 6 also flying into Barcelona and had planned on renting a car in Barca Airport. However having holidayed in Spain over the last few years and always renting a car I am finding Car hire very expensive from the Airport.

We are now planning a getting the train to Salou and renting a car from there. I have read somewhere that you can actually get a train from Barca Airport direct to Salou but I cant find much information on this and it would be ideal if we could do this.

Would love to hear from someone who has done this.

Our flight arrives late at night so the train would not be an option as from reading other posts, the trains stop running about 9 o'clock.

we have jusr returned from Salou. We used Reus airport and paid 28euros for a taxi to hotel. Some drivers wanted 35 so ask them all. On our last day we hired a car from El Paso hotel where the main Europe Car Hire office is, and arranged to leave it at Reus at night when we were finished with it. Cost was 49 euros but well worth it as we'd have been approx 30 euros for taxi to airport anyway. I'm not sure how this compares to other hire places, but it was the only place that would give us the car on that arrangement. Petrol is a lot cheaper than here, just under 1 euro a litre in most places.

no direct train to Salou from Barcelona Airport. You would need to take the train to Barcelona Sants, change onto the train for Salou. Little bit fiddly but by no means impossible.

We too found car hire expensive from Barcelona (we are going next May) but did finally manage to find a reasonable price through a company called AUTOTURISTICA, all the details can be found on the Costa Brava forum
