Not absolutely sure yet if we will nedd a car for the whole two weeks. We will be staying at gouvia, and from what I have read there is a good cheap bus into Corfu town, which we may useon a couple of days.

The reason I ask, is to assess whether a town based car company, who will not charge delivery collection for the airport would be the best deal, or a local company whose daily rate is cheaper but may charge for airport delivery would suit you. To be honest Gouvia is such acentral location for buses and excursions, I would doubt whether you would require a car for your whole stay. Normally you get a discounted rate and free milleage once you have it for 3 days ( consecutive). My personal recommnedation for a good combination of R & R and exploring would be three days in your first week and another three in your second, and use the local bus to go to Corfu town where car parking is not easy anyway!
If you would like to e mail me on info@ corfucastaway.com I will send you rates which i beieve that you will find very comptetive .

You might like to contact this company. Friends of ours have used them and found them cheap and efficient. I know that they deliver and collect from any part of the island, including the airport, free of charge. You can contact them via http://www.pelekas.com/ads/mega/index.html.

try this page, it has several local hire companies.

I have booked with novacar for end of august and found the rates very good, no charge for meeting us at airport with the car in the middle of the night and leaving at airport in middle of night on night of departure.

we always hire a car for the full holiday then we can do as we want without trying to cram the far away things into the days we have the car

Hi

We stayed near Gouvia and used Top Cars - www.topcars.com

They were really good and I would recommend them. Email them with your details etc, and they will deliver to your hotel. Also NO deposit required, and quite a lot cheaper than larger firms. They are based in Corfu town.

Hi

Can anyone recommend a car hire company that might have cars available at the airport at 11.30 at night(when flight lands).
Most of those I can find shut at 9.

Thanks in advance for any help

I have just had a very unpleasant experience in Paleokastritsa with a Car Hire Company called Economy Car Rentals - Europe Union.

Please see my letter to them to give you the idea of what happened. Todate I have not received a response from them.

Regards

Karen

Dear Sirs

It is with regret that your Company (or its subsidiary company) has ruined our holiday in Corfu.

As you will see I am writing to you indicating the response you gave to me in your email prior to our departure to Corfu. You will see that you particularly confirmed that we had super cover and were covered for all eventualities including WUG.

Unfortunately Mr Crampton who was driving one of the cars was run off the road by an oncoming car and in order to avoid hitting him subsequently hit his wheel on a rock formation which jutted out from the road causing the tyre to blow and an indentation in the wheel itself. The other car just continued without Philip being able to approach him.

However on reporting this to your Corfu office we were subsequently visited by two "heavies" from the Corfu office who were acting on the instruction of the manager of the Corfu office.

They informed my husband who was alone at the time of the meeting that we were not covered by the insurance at all and that we would have to hand over our credit card. Then Phillip joined the group and the threatening attitude by the two men seemed to alleviate slightly. They still however insisted on taking a credit card. My husband did not hand it over and said he would see me as he was sure that we had paid for full cover of the cars.

We did not hear from them for several days but on my husband and I returning to the hotel on the final day of hire of the cars we were met by my daughter who was crying having been approached by these two men demanding her credit card and generally intimidating her. She had with her her 18month year child who in the confusion caused by these men ran off and nearly entered a major road.

I took these men to one side and asked if they were intending to cause intimidation and why was there two of them when one of them would have sufficed. He said that he had picked up the other man from a nearby village.

As I did not have the email from you with me (as I didn't think I would need this) it was very difficult to prove what our insurance was as the woman who delivered the cars had not completed the forms correctly in the first place.

They stipulated that the WUG was a local taxation and informing them that this was not expressed to us by their representative who delivered the cars - she had not completed on the forms either accepted or declined in the insurance section.

Expressing to them that the cover should have been for all eventualities.

They then said that the insurance could be taken out retrospectively and as long as I paid cash I could have the insurance and this would cost Euro 130.

I paid this sum to the men under sufferance and also to stop the problem becoming worse - but I did inform them that I would be checking the wording on my email and that I would be getting in touch with you.

I now require the following from you:-

1. Euro 130.
2. A copy of the insurance that the Corfu office confirming that we have been covered as stipulated by you.
3. A copy of the insurance taken retrospectively by the two men.
4. A letter from the insurance company confirming that they are happy that the insurance was taken out retrospectively by your firm.
5. A letter of apology from your Corfu office.
6. Compensation for your company completely spoiling our holiday.
7. Details of your professional body that deals with complaints.

I await to hear from you by return and please be assured that I will not rest until the above has been done. I am sure that fraud must also be an offence in Greece as it is in the UK and I have taken witness names and addresses to the above.

Yours truly

We are looking at hiring a Car in Corfu, for our forthcoming visit in September.

I have heard that Car Hire offices are situated right on the dock (I assume all ships dock in the same place ?) - does anyone have any contact details for any of these (e-mail / website) etc so that I can book before we go, as I would hate to turn up and they have no vehicles. My other alternative is to book via the ship - I know their is a fee for this, but at least we would be guarnteed the vehicle being there, and I guess in reasonable condition ?

Finally could anyone recommend best places to get around in a day - not into museums etc, would like to have a look at some of the resorts for possible future hols and see some of Corfu town.

This company seems to have good rates. They will meet you with a car at the port for no extra cost. Our friends and relatives always use them when they visit. Their website is at http://www.allcorfu.com/ads/mega/index.html

A company called Top Cars is often recommended on another busy Corfu Forum and their prices are really cheap, http://www.topcars.gr/corfu-car-rentals.htm. They quoted me 165 euros for 1 week in early May for a Group B car.
You have to email them for a quote.
