On the Spanish mainland a lot of us use Linea Directa - you can deal with them overthe phone, in English if you like, and they will fax a covernote to you.

Hi

We also discussed this topic here back in September ... see this link

I had problems with Linea Directa at the time & now use Abbeygate who were recommended in this thread and proved to be some 30% plus cheaper. As to how good they will be when it comes to processing a claim, I have no idea ... and hopefully never will have ...

Worth giving them a call ... even if to get a quote, for Linea Directa claim they will match any written quote ... of course, it's hard to get anyone to put anything in writing, so it could be an empty boast

I thought I would post my deqlings with Linea directa, perhaps they will be useful to someone.

I have been with LD for four years now, i live in one of the most expensive areas of Spain for car insurance and it costs a hell of a lot to insure the car. Last year I was quoted 640 euros for enhanced TPF&T with LD, I then got a cheaper quote from Seguros Bilbao. On phoning LD they then were able to reduce the premium by 60 euros to undercut SB by 15 euros. For convenience, I stayed with LD.

This year the sent me a quote for 585 euros. a client of mine quoted me 448 euros, so again I called LD to inform them that I did not want to renew this year. Again, after being passed to their 'Quality Control' department they were able to quote me 419 euros. I told them that I was not interested, as they should have been able to give me this quote originally. I informed them that I had the same last year and was not happy that they sent me a quote for 585€ then tell me that it can be reduced.

The guy on the phone said to me that probably the other quote I have will be much higher next year and that I would be better off staying with LD. I told him that if the price rose next year I would then seek a quote from LD. He told me that I would lose my 4 years no clams bonus with them. With this I informed him that I definately did not want to continue with LD as he was now being dishonest with me. The price of the premium dropped significantly again and now stands at 380€. So, for insisting that I do not want to renew my policy, the price has fallen an amazing 35%. I'm pretty sure that it would be even lower had I continued, but I was rather taken aback at a sudden 200€ decrease in the premium.

I'm now in a quandry as to whether continue with LD, being as I wholeheartedly disagree with how they operate here in Spain, but on the other hand, it's going to be very difficult finding a n insurer with similar premiums in Galicia.

It is all very well getting that much lower price but has the standard of cover been lowered, I still stick with the old saying old fashioned though it may be "You only get what you pay for"

The cover was exactly the same, there was to be no changes to the cover I had. The only change was in the price.
I have to say that the cover was more than sufficient and is a good insurance policy, but was annoyed that their original quote was not that much lower originally.
In the end I changed company out of principal. My client was able to find me a quote for 400€, which for this part of the world is good going.
