My wife and 8mth old baby left UK to China on the 5th Aug 09 for 3mths to visit her family, after 1 week our baby got bit by some type of insect and her eye become very bad, then 7 days ago she got a fever, was took to the local hospital in China and gave her a drip but let her go after a few hours, the next day she become much worse! fever and throut, this time had to be rushed to hospital and they kept her in and after 5 days she has had 10 drips, needles, but now tomorrow she should come out has the fever has gone,
I have been in touch with our doctor in UK for advice and we would have some report from the hospital in China, and our doctor said its best for her to get back soon, as the weather in China is too hot, so Nov is too far away, and she can not take another problem like this, she has already lost weight!!
We have a normal ticket with KLM and was booked via a agent, i have sent emails days ago about this to the agent, and sent email to KLM todday to get another date back, close to the 1st Sep, so whats the score in these situations, would they help or would ask to pay again?, the situation we have is real and we dont want to play around with dates and communication as our babys life is paramount, so this is why i am trying to arrange now.
Let me know your thoughts, thanks for reading
This sounds like an insurance issue. The flight ticket is probably non-changeable and non-refundable. You should contact your wife's/baby's insurance company for advice.

However, I think your insurer would need contact and supporting evidence of your daughter's need to return home from one of the doctors treating her in China, rather than from your own GP in the UK.
Without adequate insurance cover, alternative options may be limited depending on what you mean by a "normal ticket". If it is a flexible ticket, there may be scope to bring forward the return date without expense. But if it is a restricted ticket, you would have to rely on the goodwill of the airline if you are to avoid additional costs. The airline may require medical evidence from China that your daughter is 'fit-to-fly'
Good luck.

Yes check the terms of the ticket. Some scheduled airline tickets allow a change to the return once travel has commenced for a fee.

Sorry to hear about your dilema. If you have not checked the above link it could be worthwhile doing so (KLM).
