No probs about getting a taxi on the 25th. Remember, the Spaniards don't really celebrate Christmas (Navidad) until January 5, when the Three Wise Men (Reyes Magos) come calling with presents.
Yes, I'd take a taxi into Fuengirola, and check out the special menus in both Casa Roberto and Don Pe before booking a table for eight.

Thanks for the info - are these large restauarants - any chance I could find out more beforehand?. Any suggestions for Christmas Eve?.

Alas, neither Don Pe nor Casa Roberto have their own websites, but a Google search linked with Fuengirola will supply titbits on both. Another restaurant to consider (one I had forgotten, truth be told, but perhaps best of all) is Valparaiso, which is not far from where you are staying at El Coto.
All three are fairly large - Valparaiso being largest - and you could pick out one for Christmas Eve, say Don Pe, then head to another for Christmas Day.
Valparaiso is likely to be the merriest on the 25th, as it has a small dance-floor area, so I'd maybe opt for that choice on the big day. But you'd need to book soon to make sure of a table!
This website link may be of help.

Thats great Tony thanks for the info, think we will book this weekend. Do you know if there are any bars or restaurants in El Coto itself?.

Yes, there are quite a few. Thought about renting a villa at El Coto last year for a birthday party, and checked out the area before opting to go elsewhere. If my memory serves me well, there is El Brujo, El Potron, and El Coto (all restaurants).
Only one I've been in is El Brujo (The Witch), which I enjoyed a lot, apart from the fact that the then owner (and head waiter) took your order while smoking a cigarette. Ughh!

We have booked to go to Fuengirola flying out on Christmas day from Glasgow.

What i'd like to know is

1/ Whats the weather likely to be like?
2/ Christmas Dinner - Are they widely available without Pre booking?
3/ Entertainment - What sort of entertainment do they have on New Years Eve?
4/ Bars and Resturaunts - Will there be plenty open or do most shut down for Christmas/New Year

Cheers in advance

Hi Nezi. Those questions...
1) Weather could be warm, cold, wet, or windy. Perhaps all four! My wife and I have been out then the past two years and have been very fortunate. Clear blue skies, hot enough to be on the beach every day (sheltered by a windbreak), but a trifle chilly at night. On January 1 this year it got up to 68F by day. Hope you get as lucky!
2) If you're asking if you should fly out on the 25th and arrive there expecting to book Christmas Dinner an hour or so later, I'd say definitely not.
There will be no shortage of places where you might eat (Fish Alley springs to mind), but any place half decent offering a festive meal should be long sold out.
3) On Hogmanay, the place goes mental. It is by far the best fun night of the year, and everyone dresses up to the nines and heads for the church square with their bottle of cava and bag of 12 grapes.
There's a band there playing until just short of dawn, so you can dance the night away, or as long as your impending hangover allows. Unmissable!
4) As far as bars and restaurants, the place is chock-a, so don't expect to go hungry or thirsty. Places to eat around Fish Alley include Don Pe's, Moocher's, Portofino, La Gaviota, and Casa Roberto. May see you there. Enjoy!

A workmate of mine goes every year and said its great.

Another question

How easy is it to get to Malaga and is it worth a visit?
Reply
Hi Nezi. Getting to Malaga's easy from Fuengirola by train. They leave at six and 36 minutes past the hour, and the cost of a return ticket, if I remember rightly, is less than three euros. Lots to do and see there, and think about doing a city tour on the open-deck bus. Maybe get off to visit the Picasso Museum, or drop in on El Corte Ingles for some shopping.
Remember, too, that the suberb, new Miramar Centre (shops, cinemas, restaurants and such) is just minutes away in Fuengirola itself. Very much worth a visit. Hope this helps. Tony.

Hi Nezi. Glad to hear you're fixed up for your tuck-in at The Scotsman. It has been a regular haunt of my wife and I for years, and we have always enjoyed the "chuck" there, as well as a laugh when the "mad brothers" ran the place.
When we were out in September a new owner had taken over, but the purvey again did not disappoint. Go easy on the plum duff and have a Merry Christmas!

The Mad Brothers!!! That would have been Peter and Lez Coupland, they used to run a hotel in Dumfries where i'm from, many years ago. Ive been over once to see them a few years ago.

Just been over to Fuengirola for the week-end, and we went into the Scotsman.
They are doing a Christmas Day Buffet menu from 12 00pm and the price is 29/95 euros.
Soup, Starters, Main Course and Dessert, tea/coffee and mince pies.
Phone Mags on 695862168 to book a table.
If you want the full menu, send me a personal message.

By the way, the weather was wonderful, really hot.

Its the first time ver we won't be at home for Christmas and I want to try and make it really different for our daughters - 15,13,11 & 9.

Thanks in advance
