Hello from a newbie.
I am going to Albufeira in two weeks time and the Manager of Albufeira Makro has kindly sent me the current ciggie prices which are below:
Our prices :

Benson - 32,30 €
Embassy - 31,34 €
Marboro - 27,73 €

I can't however find a map on the website nor does adding the store address into search engines do any good. I will be on foot/public transport and does anyone please have a map of how far Albufeira Makro is from the centre of Albufeira and is it walkable or do I need to take a bus/taxi.
Obviously if it is a taxi it may be cheaper to buy in Albufeira itself.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi, Andrew. Makro is NOT walkable for ciggies from central Albufeira. It is located opposite the Algarve shopping centre. The ciggies at Makro are a tad over €1 a sleeve saving against local prices. If you want to make this saving, I would suggest combining it with a day out to the Albufeira shopping mall, there is a great food court there for lunch/tea. You could get a bus there and maybe a taxi back. If you have a look at the map HERE, it shows Makro situated at the very top centre.

Best of luck,

Robby

Many thanks for your prompt reply.
I will actually be staying at the Hotel Maritim which is shown on the map. There is a bus service that goes past the hotel but looking at the map it turns on the Vale Parra road which would leave me 3+km short of Makro according to the map so a taxi would have to be used as I have some problems with my legs and can't walk too far.
I think my best bet is to just buy the ciggies in Albufeira old town as the savings at Makro would be wiped out by transport costs.
Do you happen to know if the Faro Makro is within walking distance of the airport? I viewed a map of where it is but the airport wasn't marked on it so I couldn't judge the distance.
Thanks again
Andrew

Faro Makro is situated just off the EN125 between Faro and Olhao. The Albufeira Makro would be your best bet, especially where you are staying.
Why not just buy them at the aiport on your return, they are the same price as the resort ??

Enjoy your trip,

Robby

I,ve read that the Portuguese authorities have ordered removal of several very well known brands of cigarettes, they are:- Benson and Hedges, Sovereign, Mayfair, Berkeley, Sterling and Corona (produced by the Gallaher Group PLC), and Dunhill, Rothman's Royals and Golden American (produced by the British American Tobacco PLC). The reason is due to the amount of tar and nicotine which the authorities are saying exceed the published amounts on the packet.

Hi Gerry they are still selling bensons as yet I only came back late last night. The shelves in the shops though are very sparce with cigarette stocks.

I bought 400 Sovereign yesterday in Albufeira.

C'mon, guys;we all know things don't happen that fast in Portugal !! :)
Long before these brands are removed from shelves the "accountants" will have convinced the authorities that either their findings were flawed or that it was a "one-off" and normal service will have been restored.

Hi, at the moment Lamberts are 31euros for 200 where-ever you shop, Makro is slightly cheaper but u need your card. However so i'm told there is a price increase looming. Cheers Jayjan

Prices are going up as we speak - B&H now €34 for 200 most other international brands €31 or €32. Local brands around €28 - €30.

Half the UK price - terrible.

The Silk Cut were €34 when we were there as well.

hi Sweet, I have seen them in the cigarette machines in local portuguese bars but never seen them in the tobacco shops. Was once given one of these by a portuguese friend and liked them but never found them in shops. let me know if you find an outlet for them.Cheers Jayjan
