We have decided to go to this part of Turkey late August - only ever been to Icmeler before. Cant decide whether to go to Hisaronu Club Orka which has excellent reviews or Olu Deniz itself.
The hotels I have looked at in Olu Deniz are Sun City, Alize and Olu Deniz resort hotel, which again all look good, however would prefer for the children to be in a separate room for sleeping as they tend to wake at the crack of dawn whatever time they go to sleep! As far as I am aware all the family rooms in these hotels have all 4 beds together in one room.
Oldest son loves wateslides and I know there is one of these at the Alize and also at the Club Orka.
Can anyone help me choose, do not mind if A/I or self catering, we would eat out anyway but there does not seem to be much of a price difference between S/C or A/I. Do not really want to be out on a limb, would like to be quite central. Any advice on these hotels listed above or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
you could try the Hotel Greenland just down the road, they have a slide and either family rooms or 2/3 people rooms, its a nice hotel, and we are going back for our 6th time this year.
My partner and I stayed at the Alize last September. Nice hotel, lovely big pool, but do not choose it just for the waterslide - it was only operational for a couple of hours each afternoon. Food was good and entertainment staff great, evening entertainment more for children than adults. Maybe you could book adjoining rooms, depending how expensive that worked out. If you do choose the Alize, try to avoid the ground floor rooms, as these were partly below ground level and I've read can be quite dark and dingy. Our 1st floor room was fine.
If your children are youngish, then I think Olu Deniz would suit them fine -the main beach does shelve rather steeply into the sea, but the free shuttle buses from most hotels (including the Alize) will take you to the beaches by the lagoon in five minutes. We visited Suara beach, which was wonderful, so peaceful, and the water was like a millpond, with loads of little fishes at the water's edge. You could hire a pedalo, there was a cafe/bar and a restaurant there and the sand was finer than on the main beach (recommend water shoes).
If your children are teenagers, they would probably enjoy the livelier resort of Hisoronou, with it's bars and clubs. It didn't do a great deal for my partner and I, being a bit past it in our forties; we went there one evening and enjoyed a lovely meal, but this was after being subjected to friendly, but a little annoying encouragement to eat at another 30 or 40 establishments. In the end we had enough and just went into the next restaurant we came to. As far as we could see there wasn't much else there other than fake gear shops. You could say the same for Olu Deniz, but there is much less hassle and of course you have the beach and the lagoon on your doorstep.
We enjoyed it so much, we are going back in September, this time to Belcekiz Beach, which we've read great reports about.
Whichever resort you choose, I'm sure you'll have a great time.
oposite the club orka is the grand ucler hotel and water park this is infact in ovacik not hisaronu and is a dolmus ride from the olu beach about 8 mins
The latest review on the Sun City describes a family room with 2 rooms, one with double and one with bunk beds.
I have emailed alize hotel about interconnecting rooms but so far no reply, have also found out that club sun city and asena beach do family suites.
Looked at one of the cheap turkey accommodation sites (vision holidays) who stated there was a family suite available at asena beach, but when I emailed the hotel direct to enquire, was told there wasn't one available!! (not sure what to do now!)
Have emailed sun city direct as cannot find any company selling the suites, but so far no reply also! Will just have to keep trying and maybe make a couple of phone calls to Turkey.
Finger crossed!

one thing worth remembering though is that the tour operators charge a very hefty supplement for these rooms and you may find it cheaper to book 2 twin rooms and pay adult prices . when we booked sun city the tour operators wanted £1000+ just in supplements for these rooms in the end we booked with http://www.tulipholidays.com who are a turkish specialist and we saved the £1000 so they may be worth a look.
Many thanks , I will have a look at the Tulip website now, I see what you mean about the large supplements for the family rooms, I did find a site advertising family suites at the sun city, but it was £1600 accommodation only, which seemed a bit much to me! In your opinion, which was best - Asena Beach or Sun city, we would eat out a night anyway, so are not overly bothered about being a/i!
You cannot go wrong with Club Orka, fantastic place, the villas were all renovated last winter, they are fab all mod cons
Hotel Greenland is a good family atmosphere, most of the guests are families with 2 3 children. Good choise for your kids to have a social environment like hotel greenland. They have added 40 more rooms as delux, jacuzzi in rooms, honey moon rooms are so special try to get the red one 2 seperated great pools. bigger one is nearly the biggest of hisaronu - oludeniz.
agree with chazy orka is brilliant - the villas have 3 bedrooms and bath upstairs and a good sized lounge with basic kitchen and second bathrom downstairs (with a bath!) great if you have older kids in tow - it has 2 nice pools and the staff are fantastic- olu deniz is great but pricier than hisaronu and ovacick
def recommened club orka they have interconnecting hotel rooms which sleep 3 per room and also the villas, also dolmus stops right outside for hisaronu/ould deniz or other wt fethyie calis beach. hotel is fab there is the grand ucel waterpark or the salhan aparts which are just the other side of the road with 3 good water slides which you can use for free anytime, their food is also good for lunch. cant go wrong with orka.
We stayed here last year and we loved it. Was a fantastic hotel. We went with a 4 year old, 11 year old and adults and was suitable for all these ages. Rooms were lovely.
We upgrade to a suite when we've stayed there, last year and this year, and while we were waiting for our room to become free this year, they placed us into a family suite in block 7. Their family suite has a double bed in the large room which has the balcony, fridge etc, then you walked through into a separate room which had two single beds and then the bathroom.
The rooms were very big, and you could easily have fitted extra single beds into both the double room AND the twin room, so they are very very spacious. It also has 2 lovely pools, and is in an excellent place in Olu. There are some great reviews on it, and you can choose B and B or Half board.
No water slides or anything but the pools are nice, and of course can always get the dolmus to the waterpark up in Ovacik, which if you go from 3-6pm (long enough!) it is a lot cheaper than if you go before.
