Hello All,
I'm thinking of travelling by coach to LLoret De Mar next summer with the Mrs and my two toddlers who will be 2.5 and 3.5 at the time of the hol.
Can anyone tell me the approximate journey time from the UK (West Midlands) to Lloret and if doing a coach holiday with two toddlers is a good idea?
No chance of me flying at all!!
Thanks
Not sure of the time scale but it'll be at least 24 hrs I'd have thought. I'd make sure when booking that the children get their own seats for eg.
We did Oldham (Lancashire) to Lloret the very first time (quite a number of years ago). We left in the morning from Oldham and arrived at our destination at lunchtime the next day. We travelled by ferry so you may possibly knock a little time off if going via the chunnel.
with ferris you tend to arrive in the resort around 9am,
no reason not to do this with kids as plenty of people do. just read all the tips on the forum
if you are going to stay in lloret make sure you read the hotel reviews before you book and avoid the casino hotel as it will not be suitable for you.
i would go as far as to say that with 2 very young kids you would be better looking at malgrat or santa susanna as both are more child friendly, unless you intend to take them clubbing!
How does a typical return journey work? What time do you get picked up from your hotel and what time are you normally kicked out of your room? Was thinking of going with Ferris?
Have moved this to the Costa Brava forum.
with all companies you have to check out of your room by 10am but you can sometimes arrange to keep the room for a bit longer if you speak to reception.
ferris normally pick up between 12 and 2 for the return journey (note the AI in hotels ends at 12.00).
lloret is normally the first drop off for arrivals and the last for pick ups but sometimes they get people to swap coaches at the first/last comfort stop to put all the people for the same resorts on the same bus to make pick ups and drop offs a bit quicker.
you will get 4 seats together so you can decide who sits with who
you get back to calais, normally they try to get on a ferry around 6 or 7 o'clock french time, so you are at dover around 7.30am english time and then back to your drop off point.
they play dvds on the coach both ways that are child friendly, but you will still need to take something to keep them amused during the journey.they stop roughly every 4 hours both ways for you to get off and stretch your legs.
i would suggest that you take some food with you as the prices both on the ferry and at the stops is quite expensive for a family. they do sell hot and cold drinks on the coach at 80p a time and they do have crisps and chocalate, and sometimes pot noodles.
it does seem quite daunting the first time you go but good planning beforehand will make it a lot easier and less stressful.
do read all the threads on this forum as you will pick up a lot of tips to make it all easier.
the best advice i can give you is to treat the whole journey as part of your holiday, and not just as a way to get there, and go with the flow. ferries get missed (but they run very frequently), traffic causes delays but ferris have done this trip so many times they adapt to deal with these things.
have fun

We've just been from Normanton, West Yorkshire. We traveled with Shearings and it took 27 hours. We stopped every 3 hours is for the toilet.
If you are going peak season then there are usually free shuttle buses to the water parks running.
Playa d'aro is prob the nearest resort with a waterpark but other than a funfair not much else for kids.
I regularly take our kids and they are fine. ( youngest was only 2 when we first took her ).
Siestas coaches have a bit more for kids to do as they have individual monitors but they will be fine on a normal coach just take some magazines / colouring books
